Another allegedly NOS brown coated 7A38-6020 'Diver' surfaced on eBay Italy earlier this evening.

Note stated conditionUsato (rather than New with Tags) - An item that has been previously worn.

It may have been NOS once, but it isn't any more. Apart from the scratches in the brown coating on the bezel near 50, through to the black chrome plating underneath, the once orange bezel inlay lettering and dial printing (SPORTS 100 and upper sub-dials) has faded to yellow, through exposure to sunlight. Possibly might be an ex-shop window display model, I suppose. :/

Looking at the position of the pin in the adjustable clasp, in the last set of holes, I reckon the bracelet could be short of at least one removable adjustment link, from it's original complement. The bracelet has a total of 19 links, indicating it will fit a maximum 7½" wrist.

Oh - and ignore the hang tag. It's a red herring used by many Italian eBay sellers. They'll shove any old thing on there, in their pathetic attempts to con buyers into thinking a watch is new and unworn. The SDW025J tag belongs to a 7T32-6A90. ;)

That Italian eBay auction for the not-quite-so NOS brown coated 7A38-6020 ended about 10 minutes ago, in something of a last second shoot-out. It sold for 412 Euros (approx. £297) after 22 bids - the last two snipe bids placed in the final 5 seconds.

Not such a bad price - given the condition. All the winning bidder needs to do now is find himself one of these .....

Meanwhile over on Yahoo Japan, the one-upmanship continues.

In his latest re-listing, would-be profiteering re-seller l_h_m_m has further reduced his opening bid price - now down to 68,000 Yen.

And so it goes on.

Although he'd stopped re-listing it for a couple of months, I had a pretty good idea that would-be profiteering Yahoo Japan re-seller l_h_m_m hadn't managed to sell the ex-Stuart Lennard brown-coated 7A38-6020. ;) It's back today - re-listed once again !

If you need reminding of the full history of these two over-priced brown-coated 7A38-6020's - go back and read the previous page.

They both previously sold on eBay in October 2014 - purchased by these two would-be profiteering Yahoo Japan re-sellers:

Subtitled: You can maybe outsmart some of the people some of the time, but not me, I'm afraid. 8)

This afternoon, would-be profiteering Italian eBay re-seller cmax-28762 listed a brown coated 7A38-6020. I've been expecting it.

It is of course this same 7A38-6020, which I predicted back in February on the previous page, that he paid 161 Euros for at the time ....

Slightly belated update on that brown-coated 7A38-6020 listed on eBay Italy at the end of January. It went unsold first time around. The seller then re-listed it, reducing the opening bid from 199 Euros down to 159 Euros. That auction ended yesterday afternoon, after only 3 bids, selling for 161.09 Euros (approx. £119.29).

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291374351114

Unfortunately, that won't be the last we see of that particular brown-coated 7A38-6020. The winning bidder id c***8 (773) belongs to Italian profiteering eBay re-seller cmax-28762, so I expect it'll be back on eBay in a week or so's time for double the price.

.... and which I followed up in the first week of March with: Well that one hasn't re-emerged yet - but I'm sure it will, in due course. ;)

I've had that NOS p/n 86310783 bezel in my spare parts stock, unused since October 2011, but it seems they are still available ....

Listed yesterday by Filipino eBay seller Tony Plaza (aka_nato a.k.a. collections_at_home and seikoparts14):

Fortunately, at the time, mine cost less than half Tony's current asking price. :)

Funnily enough, US collector (and dealer) Mike Mounce listed a brown-coated 7A38-6020 on SCWF Trading Post yesterday evening:

http://www.thewatchsite.com/8-seiko-citizen-trading-post/173073.html

FS: Seiko 7a38-6020 Quartz Chronograph $425

Note that is has a couple of scratches to the brown coating of the bezel rim near '50' and that the bezel inlay printing is faded.

Sounds familiar ? :| Then scroll back up to the top of the page to the eBay listing in April by the Italian seller maddys65.

Indeed, Mike Mounce, whose eBay ID pmounce shows in abbreviated / encrypted form as e***e (1658) was the winning bidder / buyer:

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=271838420016

I really couldn't understand why Mike wanted it before, because he appeared to have a better example in his collection ....

One with unfaded bright orange bezel lettering. He originally posted this photo in a thread on SCWF back in January 2012:

http://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japanese-watch-discussion-forum/25671-how-about-7a-feast-sunday.html#post157217

See third from right and quote: A few that I have picked up through the years......

But the brown coated 7A38-6020 that he's now offering FS on SCWF isn't the same as he bought from maddys65 in April.

They may both have fresh looking JWC inspection stickers in place on their case-backs, but the serial number of that one was 4D5881, whereas the one he's now selling with the same scratched / faded inlay bezel is 4O5756. So there's clearly been an element of parts swapping going on between them - if not just the bezel and / or case-backs.

I bet he's kicking himself now those NOS bezels are for sale on eBay.

Not entirely a surprise, earlier this evening, Mike Mounce also listed that brown coated 7A38-6020 on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381303023928

Selling an excellent Seiko gray/brown dialed 7a38-6020 quartz chronograph. Model is the more rare brown pvd case.

The 7a38,15 jewel quartz movement is running great with new battery.

It's the 7a28's cousin with day/date.

All functions working correctly, but service history is unknown.

Crystal is perfect along with bezel insert. The bezel edge has some wear in one small spot. Bezel turns solid with clicks.

Original SQ bracelet with the factory pvd finish that is in great condition will fit 7 1/2 inch wrist.

A somewhat belated update to my above post. Mike Mounce ended that eBay listing on June 23rd after only a couple of days:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381303023928

Presumably it had sold through his earlier SCWF advert. My suspicion was confirmed last week, when I received a polite message through the contact form informing me that I was wrong about the bezel lettering being faded:

Message = greetings... I bought the 7a38-6020 w/ brown pvd from Mike Mounce serial# 405756... I am seeing several of these with gold bezel highlights, which you seem to believe is faded orange... but seems that the orange bezel belongs to the silver (pvd?) model and the brown model is meant to have gold bezel highlights to blend with the gold dial printing and the gold hands?... it doesn't appear that this watch ever had orange in the bezel...

it went on: and doesn't appear that any part of it has faded...

The buyer was a Peter Taubman who said that he'd paid Mike $375 for it - not a bad price, meaning Mike sold it at a loss compared to the 412 Euros (approx. $450) he paid for it on eBay in April (see top of this page). Peter has declined my invitation to join the forum - saying that he's too busy on other watch forums. However he did very kindly email me a couple of wrist shots:

The watch is clearly in very nice, almost mint, condition apart from the small grazes to the brown coating of the bezel near '50' .... and of course the typically faded bezel inlay lettering. Note also that the orange dial printing (SPORTS 150 and upper sub-dial markings) is also faded to almost the same shade as the gold dial printing. I did draw Peter's attention to Tony Plaza's eBay listing for a NOS bezel, suggesting that a fresh replacement might improve the watch, but he remains in denial.

The same brown-coated 7A38-6020, serial # 4O6023, previously first sold for $168.05 on eBay last October, by Filipino watch-botcher time_essence, which was purchased and subsequently re-listed ad nauseam, for months on end, by eBay to YJ profiteering re-seller Swotlab (see various posts on page 2 of this thread), is back on Yahoo Japan auctions once again.

http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w126361527

Google translates this latest seller's Japanese description (badly as usual) as follows:

The newer one, please contact than sorry to trouble you, but that there is an intention of purchase question column.

If not, I am sorry I will but allowed to delete so please understand rightly.

1984 production, model number: 7A38-6020, diameter: 38mm (I excluding crown). Belt width: 20mm.

Dial: in the original, I think that it is beautiful person. Dial, body, color of bracelet is the Brown system.

Glass: No scratches can be seen with the naked eye. Case: small scratch is a certain degree, bracelet is the bald like the image.

Incidentally, the reason I hadn't posted a result for the previous (re)listing of that 7A38-6020 by YJ re-seller Swotlab, is that it ended with it still unsold, back in July. Presumably the current seller must have made him an offer.

http://page7.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/g145183173

This time around, with a rather more sensible opening bid of 1000 Yen, it made 26,000 Yen (approx. $215.50 / £142) after 16 bids.

Academic now - bidding is under way and the B-I-N option gone. It'll be interesting to see if it makes anywhere near the $590 that this would-be profiteering Japanese re-seller paid Stuart (rubyginny) for it in October 2014.

That eBay auction for the ex-Stuart Lennard brown-coated 7A38-6020 ended earlier this morning - about 3 hours ago, while I was still in bed asleep (catching up after a very late night), selling for a mere $366 (approx. £244.26) after 37 bids.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151902520719

I must admit I'm both amused and smugly satisfied that the would-be profiteering Japanese re-seller took a considerable loss on this one (after trying to sell it for various inflated prices, for well over a year, on Yahoo Japan). Damned well serves him right, I say.

A very familiar looking, almost mint brown-coated 7A38-6020 (save for the small graze on the bezel near '50' and faded inlay lettering) was listed on eBay in the States yesterday evening. Not that there was any doubt as to the seller's identity, because not only did he include one of his previous wrist shots, but also Mike Mounce's eBay listing photo of the case-back.

Only one question Peter. :P Why do you think it is now worth $695 when you paid Mike $375 for it only 6 months ago ? :|

Much to my surprise, that brown-coated 7A38-6020 sold quickly, yesterday evening against a Best Offer:

According to Goofbid's eBay Best Offer History tool, the offer accepted was for $510 - so a nice little profit for nil effort.

What appears to be a lightly used, well cared for example of the brown coated 7A38-6020, with minimal fading of the orange bezel numbering and dial printing, was listed on Yahoo Japan earlier today by a Store seller.

http://page21.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/j386238624

As is sometimes the case, Google Translate makes a nonsense of the Japanese seller's pastel coloured description.

Not that it told you much. The seller added this as an after-thought. (March 11, 2016 11:40 addition)

The total Buy-it-Now price (including 8% VAT) is a rather ambitious 45,144 Yen (equivalent to $396.70 USD or £277.38 GBP).

I ran a quick search on Yahoo Japan on '7A38' yesterday and noticed that brown-coated 7A38-6020 offered by 'store' seller Eccentric Factory didn't come up in the search results. Seems it sold a couple of days ago for the 41,800 Yen Buy-it-Now asking price - actual total 45,144 Yen with 8% Japan VAT added (equivalent to approx. $404 USD / £284 GBP). Not too bad a price for the apparently excellent condition, unlike some of their other 7Axx offerings.

This post probably more rightfully belongs in the eBay Craziest Prices thread. About half an hour ago, a US eBay seller listed an allegedly 'NOS' brown coated 7A38-6020 with what can only be described as a bloody ridiculous Buy-it-Now price of $1500:o

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262367670706

NOS Seiko 7A38-6020 in the very rare brown finish.

Complete with NOS bezel. VERY, VERY RARE.

To add insult to injury, this greedy would-be profiteering re-seller is offering it through eBay's GSP programme which adds another $460 onto the selling price for any potential European buyers (who might be stupid enough to even consider it). I say 're-seller', because to anyone who has been following this thread, this watch should look very familiar. That is despite the possibility the seller may have touched up the scratched bezel coating near '50' or if not, he's certainly done his best to hide it in his photographs.

It's been listed on eBay 3 times already, originally back in April last year, by Italian seller maddys65 (see top of this page), then by pmounce (Mike Mounce, who swapped the case-back to s/n 4O5756) and most recently sold for $510 in late January, by gr8sw (Peter Taubman, who to my amusement, adamantly insisted the bezel inlay numbering wasn't faded). Well now you can see just how badly it was actually faded, compared to the NOS bezel included in the ludicrous 'package' price by the current would-be (re)seller.

Pity this latest 'value-added' speculator seems incapable of fitting it.

The above 'NOS' brown-coated 7A38-6020 currently offered by eBay re-seller chicagogoody for a ludicrously inflated Buy-it-Now price of $1500 continues to be automatically re-listed (every 30 days - thereby retaining the same item number). Despite having two dozen watchers, no mug punter has been fool enough to fall for it so far.

Meanwhile, when I was searching Italian free classified site, Subito.it earlier this week, I spotted another one ....

At the other extreme of the cosmetic condition scale, looking, it has to be said, just a tad scabby !
