Well, seeing as I'm off to Silverstone this afternoon to drive a Ferrari round the circuit, this would seem appropriate:

@ Sir Alan: A classic 7A28! Today it´s my 7A28-7070. I really like the case and bracelet of this watch.

I came to my senses yesterday and put back the dial / hands (and movement!!) into my beater 7A28 7079 instead of trying to play mix & match
the case is pretty worn, and the bracelet is about as stretched as it could be, but the dial and hands are very good, everything works perfectly and it sure looks and feels good.

After replacing the bezel insert in my 7A28-7040 it was quite predictable which gem I'm going to wear in the next couple of days

With its new bezel insert, courtesy of Harold @ Yobokies, it has to be my 7A38-7070 today:

It may have the wrong dial and (Seiko) bracelet fitted, but my 'freebee franken' Orient J39001-70 Diver is still a firm favourite.

Here's my 7A38-7290 with a new crystal. Same "patina" on the edges and bracelet. A nice "small" size for me. And Sir Alan; I'm afraid my skinny wrists aren't going to fatten up any time soon. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Looks just like the one on my list. I'm looking for a copy of the manual. I lost mine years ago.

Well if you've lost your gold tone 7A38-7289 (not clear) it shouldn't be that difficult to find a replacement. Check out this thread: There's a scan of a 7A38 instruction manual on the Other Links page: http://www.seiko7a38.com/Seiko7A38-UserManual-Scan.pdf

Got the Monday morning post-Christmas blues.
I gave it a quick strip and clean yesterday, but haven't yet replaced the scratched crystal. It came on a leather strap; for the time being (and for want of anything else, let alone an original bracelet), I've fitted one of those cheap and nasty Feiko 20mm stainless bracelets.

The first of my Favourite Five daily wearers. Something to stave off the Monday morning blues. 7A38-706A on Aerosport Mk 2 strap.

Here's my 'second string' stainless 7A38-7000 SAA007J that I picked up on eBay last September; now a favourite regular daily wearer.

Another of my regular everyday wearers in rotation - this was the third such I bought cheaply on eBay and refurbished - a 7A38-7280:
This one's not quite as it left the factory - it's been fitted with a white Sternkreuz crystal gasket and a 25mm 5-hole adjustable clasp. It's also superbly accurate - this is one of the dozen or so 7A38's in my collection keeping better than + / - 10 seconds per year.

I'm sometimes in two minds about the Taupe colour that Seiko chose for the upper dial plate on the stainless 7A38-7020 / 7A38-7029 - which is why I built myself a couple of Franken versions with predominantly black dials. But there's no denying the appeal of that lovely chunky angular watch case - indeed, going by the numbers seen on eBay, this was one of Seiko's best selling 7A38's, back in the day. Here's one of my 7A38-7029's - just as Seiko intended it:

A montage of my favourite five Seiko 7A38's wouldn't be complete without this model - the stainless 7A38-7270 SAA093J. I bought my first one back in January 1988, and I guess it's what got me started collecting them - albeit some 20 years later. This isn't that actual watch, but another example I bought relatively cheaply a few years ago and re-finished the case and bracelet.

As I've been good and worn a (different) favourite Seiko 7A38 every day this week, I thought I'd permit myself an indulgence today .... and wear what nowadays have become truly my favourite non-Seiko. Apologies for the lousy pic. Yema Spationaute III Aragatz.

Not every watch in my collection is in pristine condition - some sadly a long way from it, like this beaten-up Orient J39725-70.
