This 7A38-7070, in average worn cosmetic condition, was listed yesterday evening by a UK eBay seller, as a 7-day auction with a low start opening bid price of £0.99. The seller states that 'the watch has just been serviced', but provides no details as to what extent, or by whom, so I've asked the question*. The watch is held upside down in the primary image. The seller has uploaded that same photo twice - so I've rotated the second one.

Fantastic Rare and sort after Seiko Chronograph reference 7a38 7070.

This watch is completely original and just been serviced. Receipt of service will go with watch. Brand new correct Seiko Crystal replaced. Watch is working very well and accurate to with 1/2 seconds a month.

Watch comes with old crystal and a spare link for bracelet in it’s Seiko Box.

The watch is all original and has been left unrestored which I feel makes it look better and add to the character of the watch. It is after all a vintage piece.

This watch is the Day/Date version which makes it rare.

Lovely Blue/Red Days for Saturday and Sunday. Please see pictures.

Really nice to have new crystal and box and spare link.

Very wearable size of 40mm. Wears lovely. My wrist is 7.25 inches which is what bracelet is sized for.

Service documentation enclosed.

Uk buyers only please.

Watch will be sent signed for insured and tracked for 1pm next day. In time for Christmas.

Any questions please ask. Thanks For looking.

*Edit: It took a few messages, but the seller divulged it was serviced by Lee Cole (FBHI) of Moreland Watch Services in Plymouth at a cost of £150, which included fitting the replacement crystal and a pressure test to 100 metres.

This partially working 7A38-7070, in decent average used cosmetic condition, was listed earlier this afternoon by a French eBay seller, as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of 50.50 Euros.

The 7-day French eBay auction for a partially functional 7A38-7070, in decent cosmetic condition, ended a few moments ago, selling for 252 Euros after 29 bids.

Checking my eBay watching page, I see that well-worn 7A38-7070 'head only' listed by UK eBay seller grebit19, sold yesterday evening for the £175 Buy-it-Now price.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363185562302

Evidently that sale last month fell through, because yesterday evening UK eBay seller grebit19 re-listed his well-worn 7A38-7070 'head only'.

This 7A38-7070, which appears to be in decent cosmetic condition, was listed on the Italian classifieds site Subito, early this morning. The asking price is 450 Euros. For that kind of money, I'd want to see some better much larger photos.

They're coming thick and fast lately - 'thick' being the operative word. Earlier this afternoon, Dutch Instagram poster collectionist0, who makes it abundantly clear from his profile that he's a dealer (as vintageseiko.nl) uploaded this 'wrist roll' video of a rather nice example of a 7A38-7070 that he's tantalizingly offering for sale. As usual, there's no price stated - on the basis that if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it. Either that or it's speculatively over-priced (see below - it's €595).

He followed it up about an hour later by posting a single photo. Again no price.

Not one, but both Instagram posts are erroneously captioned as 7A38-7050 !

Indeed, the same mistake's in even bigger bolder type on his website listing !!

I couldn't be arsed to comment, pointing out his evidently careless obvious errors. However a couple of weeks later, somebody else took the trouble. Transpires that the watch is actually fitted with the wrong case-back off a 7A38-7050, which will adversely affect the selling price, regardless of how good the otherwise condition.

Note he's changed his Instagram ID from collectionist0 to vintageseikonl (same as his website). He subsequently re-posted the same photo again on Instagram in the first week of January (oddly without deleting the previous post).

The new caption deceptively reads: Such a nice Speedmaster 7A38. For sale.

A rather strange turn of events on that 'upside down' listing for a 7A38-7070. :/

I can't say I'd been watching it closely, but IIRC, bidding had reached £151 the last time I looked at it. Then, earlier this afternoon, I received a Bid Change Notification from eBay, informing me that there had been a bid retraction and that I was the high bidder (again) @ £52.

Checking the eBay Bidding History, it transpires there had been not one, but two bid retractions (the higher maximum retracted bid was in fact £175). I thought no more of it, but then about 10 minutes ago, an eBay Bid Cancellation Noticification wafted into my email in box.

The UK eBay seller had ended the listing early, as allegedly no longer available, cancelling the remaining bids in the process.

Deluded Italian eBay seller 43rosso continues to provide an unwitting source of holiday entertainment. Earlier this afternoon he listed an allegedly (but in truth, quite common) VERY RARE' 7A38-7070, in no better than average worn condition, with an absolutely ridiculous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of 950 Euros !!

His ludicrous asking price makes the much nicer example, posted higher up the page, offered by vintageseiko.nl (asking 595 Euros) almost look like a bargain !!

His delusion (or extremely poor eyesight) continues unabated as to its condition:

“Like new, worn very little !!” Check out the state of the bezel insert for starters !

This 7A38-7070 in average worn condition was listed yesterday evening by another Italian eBay seller, as a 7-day auction with a possibly over-optimistic opening bid price of 450 Euros. That said, it's still less than half the price being asked by his deluded compatriot 43rosso.

I wouldn't normally bother to add an update to a thread when a watch goes unsold in an eBay auction and is re-listed - as so many are nowadays. The above 7-day Italian eBay auction for a 7A38-7070, in average worn condition, ended yesterday evening, without any bids placed - unsold. I wasn't unduly surprised as I'd opined it was over-priced in my preceding post.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274635061037

Rather than reduce the opening bid price in his re-listing (or keep it the same, as so many others do), our intrepid would-be Italian eBay seller has seen fit to increase it from the previous over-ambitious 450 Euros to 500 !!

I noticed that same 7A38-7070 (still held upside down in the primary image) which was listed in December by a UK seller and subsequently ended as allegedly no longer available, was back on eBay again, re-listed yesterday evening. It's a 7-day auction as before, but the seller has increased the opening bid price to £175.
