Seiko 7A38 - by the numbers

Back off topic, it looks kinda similar to this full-logic N945 movement I've got an eye out for. Seems to have appeared in every usual suspect brand (Pulsar, Lorus, Yema, Alba...) except Seiko themselves. Love the Radiant below, yet another sub-brand?

If you look at the dial part numbering on that RADIANT between the 7, 8 and 5, 4 o'clock batons, it reads: JAPAN N945 and - 6??L ??

Although the second set of numbers is illegible, exactly the same format / placement as Seiko. Safe to assume they manufactured it.

Yeh. N945's.  Seen plently of Yema N945's in my time. This period advert, which IIRC dates from 1992, is full of the darned things:

To my eyes they just look all wrong with that inverted tri-compax layout.  Perhaps that's why Seiko used them in their 'other' brands.

Haha, I was going to investigate these and make a new thread but didn't think they were worth it... They all seem to be independent Shiojiri designs that ended up in Seiko and Citizen brands, so really on the fringes of interest for Seiko-philes These complex multi-function chronos are often listed as not working so safe to say below normal Seiko standards.

Actually, Lawrence, that particular Lassale 7T32 model isn't rare or unusual at all - they often pop up on eBay in the States. They're a favourite stock-in-trade of eBay dealer Worldwideweb66. He's bought and sold many. I borrowed one of his photos for this thread:

O.K., so maybe this one's not so rare. Unusual to see one as NOS, boxed with tags though, and certainly Funky in a retro' kind of way.

Another slightly unusual shaped case for a 7T32 - or whatever it was Racer / Orient Watch Co. called them. In Guatemala of all places.

The R (for Racer) logo on the strap is a nice touch. Though why didn't the designer align 'Racer Chrongraph' with the date window ?

Here's an unusual-looking Seiko 7T32, for a change - listed on eBay Germany not long ago. Not one I've ever seen before.

Very elaborate bezel and unusual strap attachment - sort of reminiscent of the 7T59 Masterpieces.

It's listed as simply 'Seiko Quartz Chronograph SQ100' with no mention of the 7T32-xxxx model number. So I've asked the question. 

With hindsight, perhaps they're not that rare.  Here's another variation on the same ornate watch case - but a two-tone version.

Sorry, Lawrence - they may be slightly unusual, but  Mickey Mouse 7T32's are anything but rare. 

I first spotted them while perusing 7T32's back in 2009. There are always plenty of them on eBay.

Here's a couple of photos I saved from an eBay listing, way back in June 2009. The white dialed version is Seiko model # 7T32-7E90:

I must admit I did actually consider buying one for a while.  It was the clever positioning of the sub-dial hands that intrigued me.

Racer 7T32's aren't that rare (in Spain) but this is only the second with a Team Collection logo'd dial I've seen.

Shame about the generic 90's sports case/bracelet.  Still worth £40 if it wasn't pick up only in North-East Spain.

Unusual in that this one isn't in their normal typically early 90's hideous Tag-inspired stying - in fact as per the title, it's almost discreet.

Orient 7T32's are anything but rare, but it's unusual to see them with the Orient 'Lions Rampant' crest on the dial and case-back.
