What about this RARE, ALL ORIG 7A28-7040?:lol:

This is a quite rare 7040 model I guess as I have never ever seen this before, absolutely collectors item....or maybe/definitely not :lol:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121012540481

For the first sight is seems to be a 7A28-703A. But it's not! It's completely franken. :P

Bezel is not original. Dial is from a 7A28-7040. Sub-dial second hand - God knows where does it come from. Bracelet is off from a 7A28-7040 like the caseback as well, case itself seems to be a 7A28-703X or 7A28-710X.

If I took this kind of quality photos in 2012 I would definately hang myself onto a tree. :P8)

Well spotted (and accurately critiqued) Arpad.

I'd seen that one myself, this morning, added it to my eBay watching page, with the intention of writing it up later. ;)

You beat me to it - great assessment, all the same though. :P

Anybody else like to comment on JFM_watches latest cobbled together 7Axx 'mess', masquerading as a 7A28-703A ?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271068098693

Buy With Confidence

Nobody ? O.K., then I guess I'll have to, albeit somewhat belatedly, because it ended up being yet another case of 'Déjà vu' ....

.... in more ways than one !

This post could quite happily belong in a number of other pre-existing threads ....

You know, those including things like: Déjà vu / Coals to Newcastle / Undisclosed Non-Original Bracelet in the topic title.

I've mentioned the Japanese re-seller / dealer 'Swotlab' already in a couple of those threads.

His normal modus operandi is to buy low, usually from eBay sellers in the Philippines, and re-sell on Yahoo Japan auctions.

Which is exactly what he's trying to do with this piece of junk, that I'd previously flagged in this thread ....

Perhaps it was just the sheer number of awful 7Axx's that JFM_watches / Nippontime were churning out at the time ....

But somehow I managed to miss noticing the winning bidder ID on this eBay auction. It was 2***m, which I happen to know is mcn260,

http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&_trksid=p2047675.l2565&rt=nc&item=271068098693

the eBay ID that Swotlab (of YJ) uses for buying on eBay. Hence no surprise, that a month later it appeared on Yahoo Japan auctions:

http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w80703875

80's セイコー 7A28 クロノ/スピードマスタ ジウジアーロ

His asking price for this same ex-Filipino 7A28 junker is 18,000 Yen for opening bid or 23,000 Yen for a Buy-it-Now ($222 / $284). :o

Like the well-botched 7A28-7020/9 which he bought from JFM_watches (see previous page), I guess it'll be on YJ for a while longer.

By the way, Arpad ....

We both missed an opportunity to comment on yet another 'Badingski Special' cobbled-together 7A28-xxxx last week. This one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121017608977

RARE SEIKO 7A28-7100 PEPSI CHRONOGRAPH STAINLESS STEEL QUARTZ MENSWATCH

For my own part, it's simply been a case of just so much of this kind of mis-represented cr*p coming out of the Philippines lately ....

to keep tabs on all of them; plus the fact that it's a 7A28-xxxx rather than 7A38-xxxx, so less of a priority, as far as I'm concerned.

As you can see from above, the non-original bracelet fitted was mentioned in the description, but otherwise the word 'original' prevails.

Which potential buyers of such Filipino junk should always take into account - means not necessarily 'original' to this particular watch.

Here's what the correct dial and hands in a 7A28-7100 should look like:

So I guess that must make Ramoncito Bangit's a particularly rare variant.  Or not. More like a very tired partial 7A28-703A.

It sold in the early hours of yesterday morning for $147.50:

.... and although our favourite reviled UK eBay re-seller also had a last second snipe at this one, he lost out this time. Pity. :(

Thinking about it, in hindsight, Arpad - the subsequent appearance of that 7A28-703A / 7A28-7100 'cobble together', a week later, has probably got some connection to the 7A28-7040 / 7A28-7100 'hotch-potch' which 'Badingski' sold a week earlier (at top of this page).

Which is now being temptingly offered by none other than our favourite reviled UK eBay botched watch re-seller - Timely_Classic.

Yet another 7A38 'not quite as it left the factory' from the bench of Filipino arch-watch-botcher, Ramoncito 'Badingski' Bangit.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12103816204

RARE SEIKO 7A38-7060 DAYDATE CHRONOGRAPH STAINLESS STEEL QUARTZ MENSWATCH

His description includes the usual half-truth: HANDS : Original - meaning possibly original Seiko, but not original to this watch.

What he's fitted don't look too out of place, particularly if you ignore the fact that the dial batons once had lume pips, and might well be correct fitment for other 7A38's including the two-tone 7A38-706B. However I suspect these are more likely off a 7A38-728x gold-tone.

Here's how how the correct hour and minute hands should look on a stainless 7A38-7060 - one without a discoloured dial too.

Yet another 'not quite right' 7Axx from the workbench of Filipino watch-botcher Nippontime (a.k.a Restoredwatches or jfm_watches):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230913427919

COLLECTORS SEIKO 7A38 SPEEDMASTER CHRONOGRAPH MENS DAY DATE WATCH $1

It's fitted with non-original hour, minute and sweep second hands. The seller's description begins:

Dial: Sporty Seiko White dial, signed Seiko Quartz Chronograph Japan, radium hour and minute hands, great looking multi color tone sub dial for the chronograph function, hands and indices are in good condition, dial with some age specks otherwise is in good original condition.

Does it come with a health warning ?

to keep tabs on all of them; plus the fact that it's a 7A28-xxxx rather than 7A38-xxxx, so less of a priority, as far as I'm concerned.

So I was hoping that somebody else might have commented on this 7A28-xxxx cobbled-together Franken listed on eBay yesterday:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221192893829

Vintage Seiko 7A28 Pepsi Bezel Chronograph “Excellent used condition”

Up for sell is a vintage Seiko 7a28 7100 watch. It's in great vintage condition. All of the functions are running properly and smoothly.

Please message me with any questions. I only ship within the United States.

Perhaps that "Excellent used condition" should read: the same crappy mis-matched condition I bought it in, back in November.

It's the very same 7A28 Franken cobbled together by Badingski, further up the page. See my post dated 19th November 2012.

Note it still has the same dirty 'tide-mark' around the inside of the crystal.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121017608977

It may have a 7A28-7100 watch case and (polished) case-back, but the bezel insert is the commonly fitted aftermarket 6139-6002 repro' item; the dial is a 703L from a 7A28-703A, hands are from whatever, and finished off with an unidentified non-original bracelet.

That's the trouble with this ex-Filipino cobbled-together cr*p. It will re-surface at some point. Thankfully this one is staying Stateside.

To further reinforce my above statement: That's the trouble with this ex-Filipino cobbled-together cr*p. It will re-surface at some point.

The stainless 7A38-7280 fitted with incorrect hands (and allegedly radioactive lume) that I flagged in my penultimate post (in January):

Yet another 'not quite right' 7Axx from the workbench of Filipino watch-botcher Nippontime (a.k.a Restoredwatches or jfm_watches)....

re-surfaced on eBay Germany at the weekend:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221199682627

SEIKO CHRONOGRAPH DAY/DATE TAG/DATUM

I expect the over-optimistic Buy-it-Now price of 160 Euros should be enough to deter most people (particularly given the price paid) ....

But should you need any convincing, check out the current seller's other close-up photos of the dial. It ain't pretty ! Best avoided.

Here we go again.  This time, a Polish eBay seller who appears to be being 'a bit economical with the truth' about his 7A38-7020:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130881195361

As is often the case with these two-tone 7A38-702x's, all remaining traces of the worn gold plating on the bezel have been removed.

It has been polished, leaving the gold dummy rivets. Also the correct original silver Tachymeter ring has been replaced by a gold one.

If you're in any doubt how one of these relatively common 7A38's should look, here's one of mine that I posted in the WRUW thread:

The first, not a complete surprise to me really, from one of the regular offenders - 'Badingski', a.k.a. Ramoncito Bangit.

Hopefully, there can't be too many who've missed Badingski's latest cock-up with the pair of 7A38's he listed on eBay overnight ....

A tired-looking stainless 7A38-7000 and a re-plated gold-tone 7A38-7289 on a non-original leather strap:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300885778316 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300885780546

Both with incorrect listing titles and both physically fitted with the wrong case-backs - off the respective watch. What a klutz !!

Needless to say, both descriptions confidently state: CASE BACK : Original,STAINLESS STEEL BACKCASE signed SEIKO LOGO #

I've seen him listing many a watch with the wrong case-back fitted before, but this is the first time I've seen him list 2 simultaneously.

Yet another classic example of why I recommend everbody should avoid this Filipino watch-botcher's offerings like the plague.

Belated Edit: It's kind of academic, given the overall appalling state of this botched-up piece of junk, but I failed to notice earlier ....

The gold-tone 7A38-7289 (with 7A38-7000 caseback) is also fitted with an incorrect replacement sweep second hand, with lume pip:

It should be fitted with a slimmer sweep hand (without lume pip) - like this:

Another 'piece of work' from the bench of Filipino arch watch botcher Ramoncito Bangit, a.k.a. Badingski.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300901161392

RARE SEIKO 7A38-6010 DAYDATE CHRONOGRAPH PVD QUARTZ MENS DIVER WATCH

Apart from the generally tired well-worn condition, the fitment of a cheap leather strap in place of the original p/n G1157F bracelet ....

This watch has also been fitted with non-original replacement hour, minute and sweep second hands. Probably one best avoided.

I've also written it up in more detail, including more of his listing photos, in the 7A38-xxxx model specific thread:

It's not unusual to see the odd (botched) Seiko 7Axx fitted with a wrong case-back. Take this tatty example of a 7A38-7280 gold tone:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161054390812

SEIKO VINTAGE CHRONOGRAPH MENS WATCH. DAY DATE STAINLESS BACK WATER RESISTANT. #460351 ALSO THE NUMBER 4006-6027. GOLD TONE WATCH. THE WATCH ITSELF IS NICE FINISH AND CRYSTAL. THE GOLD BAND SHOWS SOME WEAR BUT STILL LOOKS OK. THE WATCH AND CALENDAR PART SEEMS TO WORK WELL. THE SET KNOB IS WORN ON THE END BUT THE KNOB STILL WORKS WELL. THE CHRONOGRAPH SWEEP BUTTON DOES NOT RESPOND SO IT IS AS IS.

But I don't think I've ever seen one fitted with a case-back of a Seiko Bell-Matic before !!

At the risk of repeating myself ....

That's the trouble with this ex-Filipino cobbled-together cr*p. It will re-surface at some point.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121140957887

This is, of course, the same re-plated 7A38-7289 fitted with the wrong case-back off a 7A38-7000 sold by Badingski, back in April.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300885780546

How do I know this ? Easy - the French seller is foolishly re-using one of Badingski's dingy looking photos from the original listing.

Belated edit: This time around it sold for 61 Euros (approx. £51) after 16 bids:

Stunning Collectible Vintage SEIKO - GOLD PLATED CHRONOGRAPH TACHYMETER JAPAN - with a strong clean movement, new battery installed. Day/date window on *3 o'clock (quick set function works well). Tachy resets properly. Lovely looking chronograph watch looks gorgeous on the wrist with a lovely luxury strap, stands out!

The seller 'Georgios the Greek' seems to be under some delusions about this watch.

It certainly does stand out - as the very same perfect example of ex-Badingski cobbled-together cr*p.

Note the same polished incorrect case-back off that stainless 7A38-7000 - serial # 410444. Quel surprise not !

First time out in April it sold for $61. Resold in July for 61 Euros. If anybody is stupid enough to pay £61 for this junk - they deserve it !

The two-tone grey-dialed 7A38-7020, sales code SAA010J, is probably one of the models most often abused by watch-botchers.

Usually it's their favourite trick of polishing the remaining worn gold plating off the bezel. See the example higher up this page.

They frequently crop up on eBay Germany, where the model appears to have been a big seller, in varying conditions.

This tired-looking example, with upside-down Tachymeter ring, came up in my eBay saved favourite search notifications this morning:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141083005660

Seiko Chronographen Sports 100 Calb. 7A38

The seller's description reads:

Ich biete einen Seiko Chronographen Sports 100 Calb. 7A38 zur Versteigerung an.

Die Uhr läuft gut. Schauen sie sich die Bilder an, sie sprechen für sich.

Zustand mit Gebrauchsspuren. Die Uhr ist aus meiner Privatsammlung.

Die Daten:

Kaliber 7A38

Der Bodendeckel ist wohl nicht original.

Google translates the last short sentence as: The bottom cover is probably not original.

I'd say there's a very strong probability of that !!

I should have known that was 'a kiss of death' when I wrote it.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/350888039355

But I'm not going to eat my hat, because it was won by a zero-feedback bidder. :P

See: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=350888039355

Speaking of eBay feedback, I had to smile to myself at seller top-watch4u's current feedback number 666 - the same as my own.

By the time he relisted it, though, his feedback was well over 700... what amazes me is that he "sold it" to himself, apparently, to only relist it.... if it weren't for your constant "surveillance", such blatant examples of shill bidding would pass unobserved...

Did I write, or infer anything about shill bidding, George ?

PS - but you're correct about his rapid increase in feedback over the last couple of weeks (from 666 to 710). So I had a quick look:

Seems Georgios is a fan of Badingski's work. Perhaps we'll be seeing yet more ex-Filipino re-cycled crap from him.
