O.K. .... very simplistically, here's how I propose it could work.

The person who (at the time of his first seeing / bidding) sets his heart on winning something simply posts something like this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110894663260 Apol's 7A38-714A. I want it, because I don't have one, and it's rare. Anyone else ?

NB - in fact although I may be the current high bidder, I don't - I'd sooner wait for a better example to come along (eventually).

To save James posting it. :P

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dibs

Calling "dibs" is an informal convention where one declares a first claim to something to which no individual has any clearly recognized right. Such a declaration is often recognized in certain cultures, or sub-cultures, as a means to avoid arguments over relatively trivial issues.

Consider it completely ignored (on my behalf, at least) Chris. ;) Good Luck with the auction. :)

Cheers Paul, I will not be bidding higher than £xxx, so you are all welcome to go higher. (Post edited by Admin for Chris's benefit)

As a majority of my 25 7Axx watches are "works in progress", I am usually after spares/repairs and working but battered watches to complete my current non-workers.

This is difficult as we all know, and I question my getting involved in this busy watch collecting game now and again.

I am currently deciding whether to keep my working watches and sell my non workers as a job lot, or carry on this never ending hunt for elusive parts.

Should I decide to part with my non working 7Axx watches, I would ask a reasonable price on this forum including a small mark-up on what I paid for my efforts.

Happy hunting! :D

So Chris, after we all left it alone - for you, as requested, would you like to explain what happened ? It sold for only £77.00.

Some watches are made to last only as long as they are fashionable.
Some watches simply aren't made to last.
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion. Some day, perhaps, all watches will be made this way.

Too bad you missed that one, Chris! I have no idea of what's in your spares bag, but if you ever made up your mind about letting some of the stuff go, please do certainly let the bunch know. Cheers

It would seem that 'Gentleman's Agreements' can work out to the benefit of members, sometimes. :D

Yes well done Arpad, I had to watch the auction end out of interest.

Bagged a bargain there, my bidding finger was twitching like an alcoholic on the wagon.

OK my turn......I would like this ebay item (please):
