On t'bay at moment, there's a seller who has got this up:

Claims the caseback is a 7A28-7000, but ain't that the Alien type?

The photo isn't clear:

.

The listing claims it is a Giugiaro model and that tallies with the design cues, yet i've not seen one of these and I can't (having made a bit of effort) find any pictures of one; if the caseback is erroneous, my search is surely futile.

.

Anyway, our friendly seller seems to have added a completely inappropriate strap and is asking good money for it.

I'm reasonably 'au fait' with the Giugiaros but obviously not as much as I had thought.

Anyone care to shed a bit of extra light on proceedings?

.

Thanks

Claims the caseback is a 7A28-7000 ....

James.

It's actually a 7A28-7A00 SBBJ007, which was indeed a Giugiaro creation - or what's left of one:

For photos of a more complete example: http://www.seiko-divers.info/scwf/index.php?mod=103&action=0&id=1158012320 (scroll down)

Photos of the SBBJ007 version, in a thread on O&P: http://orologi.forumfree.it/?t=60664565 and a SBBJ005 I found on Uhrforum.de:

Well, to no-one's great surprise, it didn't sell at the silly opening price and the seller relisted it, again at the silly opening price.

This one could be out there for some while.

The perils of integrated bracelets really.  No-one is gonna buy such a watch on an aftermarket leather strap.

yep, been watching this one too, kind of pointless without its original strap of which you'd probably never get separately!

Condition of the watch itself is pretty mince too.

Whats with that stuff around the bezel..it looks like a rubber or leather material?... just the way the photo is taken?...even around the crown area..it looks like it is pulling inwards?...

Here's another 7A28-7A00 that's come up overnight, on eBay in Italy - which probably better belongs in the 'Crazy Prices' thread.

I see 'BangkokJunkMan' is offering one of these, on a non-original (rubber) dive strap - but his strap appears to 'work' rather better:

http://bangkokjunkman.com/watches/seiko/vintage-seiko-chronograph-7a28-7a00-giugiaro/

Edit: I forgot to mention that 'BangkokJunkMan' is asking a similarly ridiculous price for his tired and beaten-up 7A28-7A00 - $350:roll:

The original subject of this topic is still unsold, some 2 months later: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280890792376 - last seen at $358.

As some of you possibly saw, there was a rather more original example of 7A28-7A00 listed on eBay Germany last week:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251103166611

Seiko Chronograf, sehr seltenes Kunstoffgehäuse!

Hallo liebe Uhrensammler!

Name: Seiko Chronograph

Gehäuse: Kunststoff

Bodendeckel: Edelstahl,

Zifferblatt: sehr gut

Durchmesser: 45 mm ohne Krone

Tragespuren: gering

Werk: Seiko Quartz Chronograf, neue Batterie!

Foreign bidders welcome, but paypal only!

Please be sure to translate right, or e-mail!

It sold yesterday evening for 202.12 Euros (approx. £159.19) after 18 bids - a rather more realistic figure than those asked above.

James may have been remiss in not including the eBay link in his original post, but I distinctly remember this rather tired example of a 7A28-7A00 (on a leather strap) being offered Filipino seller 'Restoredwatches'.

If you've read some of the other scathing threads in the 'eBay' forum section, you'll know that 'Restoredwatches' uses more than one (other) eBay ID to flog their wares - the other two currently being 'JFM_watches' and 'Nippontime'.

Unsurprisingly, this poor excuse for a 7A28-7A00 still hasn't sold. Quel surprise (not), the latest re-listing is by 'Nippontime'.

Well, having re-listed that poor excuse for a 7A28-7A00 umpteen times as a Buy-it-now for $388 (or thereabouts) ....

The multi-user-named Filipino eBay seller has finally come to his senses and re-listed it as an auction, starting at $1 !!

See: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230854306313

I am the current high bidder. :/ As the man in the yellow zoot suit used to say .... Somebody stop me !!

Exciting times indeed.

I'm fully prepared with a $5 bid in the offing and might go to $10 if pushed.

Be interesting to see where this one goes.   As we've said, without the strap it's a poor relation.

Finally sold, after umpteen re-listings and almost exactly 6 months to the day from when it was first listed, for $140.37 (approx. £87):

In case anybody who's into Giugiaro 7A28's missed it .....

What would appear to have been Yves' 7A28-7A00 was listed on eBay yesterday, with a Buy-it-Now price of 500 Swiss Francs:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321128330022

SEIKO 7A28-7A00 (Giugiaro Design)

Seiko 7A28-7A00

Vintage Seiko Chronograph designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro

The Watch is in mint condition (unworn) and full functionally.

The watch fits a 20cm wrist.

Very rare and collectable piece in this condition.

Diametre without crown is 43mm

After declining 8 offers received - the highest of which was 425 CHF, it was withdrawn earlier this afternoon, presumably sold off eBay.

An example in nice condition, maybe close to 'mint' - but 'unworn' ?

While I was googling images (as you do) on 7A28-7A00, I came across this one (now sold) on a Japanese watch dealer's website:

http://www.watch-colle.com/watch/SK/sk658c/SK-658C.htm

The 6 images are clickable to 640x480. A translation of the description reads:

genuine bracelet size arm circumference up to 201mm

It sold for 28,000 Yen (approx. $273 / £180).

These Giugiaro 7A28-7A00's crop up on eBay in Italy fairly regularly. Here's another eBay listing which ended 15 minutes or so ago:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330958057202

VINTAGE SEIKO CHRONOGRAPH SPEEDMASTER CAL. 7A28 -7A00 BY GIUGIARO.

PIECE FROM MY PRIVATE COLLECTION. WITHOUT BOX - IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, ALMOST PERFECT.

I thought someone might possibly have made a grab for it at the 500 Euros opening bid price in the final seconds, but it went unsold:

Slightly belated postscript to that Giugiaro 7A28-7A00: it was subsequently re-listed with reduced opening bid and Buy-it-Now prices:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330964290662

But ended early for 'the usual reason' earlier this afternoon. :/

Was just checking through Italian eBay seller Goffre78's feedback, looking for something else, and noticed that the NOS 7A28-7A00 Giugiaro (an SBBJ007, rather than the more commonly seen SBBJ005 version) which he'd had listed at an eye-watering asking price of $2000, since the end of May (already mentioned on page 11 of the 'Craziest Prices' thread) had finally sold a couple of weeks ago:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190866004682

If you click on the link I posted, it should hopefully show that it actually sold for a best offer of $950 - which is still not an inconsiderable sum for what is a predominantly plastic watch - Giugiaro design or not.
