I'm in catch-up mode, after being away from my home PC for a few days, so I'm a bit behind in posting this. Another 7A38-7180, in typical well worn condition, was listed by a US eBay seller, late on Sunday evening, as a 5-day auction, with an opening bid price of $99. The seller is unwittingly offering it through eBay's dysfunctional GSP programme. Non-functional in the case of any Seiko.

The above 5-day US eBay auction (carried over from the previous page) for a well worn 7A38-7180 ended late last night, selling for the opening bid price of $99.

This rather more well-worn example, fitted with a non-original replacement bracelet, was listed this morning, by a UK eBay seller, with a 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £275, or the option to make a much lower, more sensible offer.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223693686905

He re-listed it, nearly an hour later, now as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of £58 (with a reserve set), or the option to Buy-it-Now for £165.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223753481529

The above 7-day UK eBay auction for a 7A38-7180, fitted with a non-original replacement bracelet, ended late on Saturday night, with bidding @ £78 after 6 bids - and the reserve price not met.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223753481529

At the time of writing, the seller hasn't re-listed it.

Just a quick update on that one. Last week, having already re-listed it once, the Italian eBay seller ended the second re-listing as item allegedly no longer available.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153717630789

He re-listed it almost immediately, with the Buy-it-Now price reduced down from 299 to 220 Euros. Still far too high a price for an example in this condition, IMHO.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153717775958

Having twice reduced his Buy-it-Now price down to 'only' 185 Euros, plus the almost obligatory screwing around with his order of his photos, presumably in a last ditch effort to confuse punters, yesterday evening the Italian eBay seller once again ended his latest re-listing for that 7A38-7180 as item allegedly no longer available.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153717775958

Let's hope that's the last we've seen of it.

Some watches remain unsold for literally years on end - usually because they're speculatively over-priced. The two such classic examples of 7A38-7180, which I've cited on previous pages of this thread being this one, which has been automatically re-listed by the Dutch eBay seller since August 2017 and of course US eBay seller vanman2usa's example which has been 'doing the rounds' for well over 10 years !!

So it's remarkable, by comparison, how quickly a 7A38-7180 can sell, when priced realistically. This example, in average worn condition was listed yesterday evening, by a UK eBay seller, with what I considered to be a very reasonable Buy-it-Now price of £139.99 or the option to make an offer.

In good used condition and fully functioning.second hand sets 2 seconds after 12 so needs adjusting.Apart from that a very nice vintage seiko chronograph.Mens Seiko Quartz Chronograph Black Metal pvd 7A38-7180.Vintage seiko chrono . Condition is Used. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class.

The listing was live for just over 90 minutes, before it ended - sold.

Sold not as one might have expected for the very reasonable £140 Buy-it-Now price, but as revealed by the alterative 'true selling price' link, for an offer of £120.

Here's another 7A38-7180, in rather more well-worn condition, that's likely to take a little longer to sell. Listed earlier this afternoon, by another UK eBay seller with a 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of £200, or the option to make a much lower offer.

Earlier this morning the UK eBay seller ended the above listing for his over-priced well-worn 7A38-7180 because of an error. Presumably the error was in the pricing.

Less than 5 minutes later, it was back on eBay - now on 'Special Offer' (not).

Only two weeks ago, in 'closing' the lengthy saga of a well-worn 7A38-7180, which after multiple attempts by the Italian eBay sell sir.vintage.watch had failed to sell even for his much reduced Buy-it-Now price of 185 Euros (see below), I wrote:

Earlier this morning, German eBay seller silversurfer365 (a.k.a. Carlo 'ketap') jumped onto the bandwagon for speculatively over-priced 7A38-7180's, listing this average worn example with a 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of 299 Euros - or the option to make a lower more sensible offer. I doubt that'll make any difference. Like the majority of his listings, I expect it'll be ended as 'item no longer available'.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273954172873

Indeed, just as I predicted, German eBay seller silversurfer365 has continued to play games of 'Hide and Seek' with his over-priced offerings. This one has now been ended as allegedly item no longer available twice. The first re-listing, that I hadn't bothered to mention before, ran from 22nd September to 30th November. (On 13th October, he again reduced the Buy-it-Now price to 'only' 247 Euros.)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274019817760

Quelle surprise (not), it is still available - re-listed again early this morning.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392573425512

I added the re-listing to my eBay watching page, but can't honestly say that I gave it a second look after that. So I hadn't spotted that he'd made a couple of revisions ....

The second one, which he made at lunchtime today, included changing its status to "spares or repair" and further reducing the Buy-it-Now price down to a mere £60. It sold 10 minutes later, not for that much reduced Buy-it-Now price, but ....

As revealed by the alternative 'true selling price' link, for a best offer of £50 !

Needless to say, it was back on eBay again, re-listed earlier this evening ....

Once again, presumably in an effort to confuse unwary punters, into thinking it's a new listing, he's shuffled the photos around. The primary image is now the same one he started off with back at the beginning of August.

This 7A38-7180, suffering from degraded lume and tarnished hands, fitted with a cheap leather strap in place of the original bracelet, was listed earlier this evening, by a US eBay seller, with a risibly over-optimistic 'pie-in-sky' Buy-it-Now price, with the option to make an offer. It's being offered through eBay's dysfunctional GSP programme, which if it did actually work for Seiko's, would potentially add nearly another $100 bucks on top. Not 'NICE' - by any stretch of the imagination.

Yet another 7A38-7180 was listed by another UK eBay seller earlier this evening, as a 5-day auction, with an opening bid price of £189. Not exactly 'rare' (quite the opposite) and little better than average worn condition - with the usual rubbing 'ware' [sic] to the black chrome coating.

Just a couple of quick updates (without bothering with partial quotes):

The 5-day auction for a 7A38-7180 re-listed (again) by US eBay seller yanmele ended late yesterday evening, selling for the reduced opening bid price of $90.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264594820002

Let's hope it stays sold this time.

Meanwhile, this morning, US eBay seller vanman2usa ended his latest re-listing for his long-since-unsold 7A38-7180 yet again, as allegedly being no longer available.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153686923339

This particular re-listing had run, automatically renewing every 30 days, since 16th October 2019 - four months, but the long-running saga of this particular 7A38-7180 goes back much much further - over 10 years. You know it will be back !

Meanwhile, they just keep coming. Late yesterday evening, another 7A38-7180, in typical average worn condition, was listed by a Mexican eBay seller, as a 10-day auction, with a highly over-optimistic opening bid price of $245.

Checking my eBay watching page, it sold this morning, not for the £195 Buy-it-Now price, but ....

Earlier this afternoon, deluded US eBay seller vanman2usa re-listed his 4U2FIX 7A38-7180 for the nth time. Just for kicks, he's increased his previous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price from the already ludicrous $299 to a whopping $375 !
