You'd need more money than sense, to be even thinking about buying that, Woody. 'Con' is a very apt choice of word.

PS - I've already written about this watch in at least three different threads on the forum. Try searching on Lesterplant. ;)

O.K. Woody. That's what we're here for.

I've re-titled your topic so that it might serve as a warning to anybody else considering buying it ....

Though like I said, you really would need more money than sense.

The watch is not rare, in any sense, other than for the fact that it is unique. It's effectively a grossly over-priced half-arsed franken.

I didn't write it up in the 'Heads Up on a 7A38 Franken' thread (maybe I should have done), because really it doesn't qualify as such.

It is the head of a stainless 7A38-6020 - and only an average condition example at that, with the usual faded bezel lettering ....

which A. Braniff (a.k.a. Lesterplant) bought off Mike Mounce last October for $230. Mike had paid $257 for it 2 weeks earlier.

At the time he (and Mike Mounce) bought it, it was fitted with an incorrect stainless bracelet that was too narrow for the case.

Lesterplant took the crappy bracelet off that 7A38-6020 and fitted it to what was presumably previously a perfectly good 7A38-7050.

He sold that in January for only £76. It probably would have sold for double that if he'd left the original p/n Z1148S bracelet on it.

The original p/n Z1148S bracelet off that 7A38-7050 is now fitted to the piece of junk he cobbled together and is asking $500 for !

I've written about what I think of this watch (and the seller) in these three threads. I don't intend to bother repeating it again here. :P

Absolutely no offence meant (to your good self), Con. :P

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confidence_trick

A confidence trick is also known as a con game, a con, a scam, a grift, a hustle, a bunko (or bunco), a swindle, a flimflam, a gaffle or a bamboozle. The intended victims are known as "marks" or "suckers", and when accomplices are employed, they are known as shills.

To reinforce my point about the deliberately deceptive dishonest nature of this eBay seller 'Lesterplant' ....

Perhaps someone could explain why, on eBay, he regularly states a location of 'South' (or Southampton in this particular case) ....

When he actually resides in Workington, Cumbria, in the extreme north-western part of England (350 miles north of Southampton):

Lesterplant's ebay auction listing for his 'Rare' 7A38 just ended. Fortunately common sense prevailed and nobody fell for the 'Con'. :)

I'm sure it'll be back soon. But it would be nice to think this thread has helped save a few inexperienced would-be 7A38 purchasers from making a potentially very expensive mistake. Woody's re-titled original topic seems to have received a few views this week. :D

This visitor from Workington has read it a couple of times today already.

It seems whatever this 'mystery visitor' from Southampton Workington googles, he keeps returning to this thread. I wonder why.

I was just having my usual daily peruse of the forum control panel statistics module - checking a few incoming google searches ....

and noticed that earlier this morning, someone had arrived via a google search on 'lesterplant'. No great surprise, as it turns out.

It was our 'mystery visitor' hailing from Workington, Cumbria once again (using one of the same previous IP addresses I have logged).

He not only spent some time reading this thread, but also briefly looked at page 4 of the 'undisclosed non-original bracelet' thread:

http://seiko7a38.com/apps/forums/topics/show/7488840?page=4

Perhaps he's wondering if it's safe to re-list his 'Rare Seiko 7A38'. :/ Rest assured, Mr. Braniff, we'll be ready and waiting.
