Could we use one ? Smoke and mirrors is a metaphor for a deceptive, fraudulent or insubstantial explanation or description. I think I may have found a good candidate to start it off with.

It all sounds very 'Agatha Christie' Paul. Come on then, dial M for metaphor .........

Would it be this listing by any chance ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190687787397 Will probably be hoovered up for spares by a SIRtain 7Axx collector who has been very busy lately. I have refrained from bidding on many 7Axx listings as an act of goodwill,LOL.

How did you guess, Chris ? What I find so risible about this eBay listing, for someone who includes: 'hope you know more this is all i could find out about it.' in their description, is that they have included just about every buzzword (apart from 'stunning and awesome') in their listing title: SEIKO VINTAGE CHRONO SPORT 100 7A38/28-7062 jdm version speedmaster military

Call me cynical if you like. There's nothing written on that receipt that actually connects it to Seiko UK, nor that particular watch. It's simply a 'generic' receipt from high street jewelry chain Ernest Jones' Cheltenham branch for a 00 WATCH **SERVICE** for £25.
The seller has written in his description: copys (sic) of instruction manual service booklet and receipt copy of what must be the last new battery fitted by seiko in 1996. unable to supply further information as they never knew it was there. appears purchased at ernest jones jewellers cheltenham who also sent it to seiko uk who serviced it. The receipt is dated November 1996. Here is a scan of Seiko UK's repair price schedule from 1990. I don't think they would have reduced their prices (chrono's are band C):

I notice the seller has added to his poorly punctuated description this evening - also set a fanciful Buy-it-Now price of Somebody ought to enter a bid of £50 and put him out of his misery.
