It's that time of year again. :) Spring has already sprung, and (the official) British Summer Time is almost upon us once again.

That's Daylight Savings Time to our colonial cousins. ;)

According to the government website: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_185398

The clocks will go forward by one hour on Sunday 25 March as British Summer Time begins for another year.

The official time changes at 1.00 am, moving forward to 2.00 am across the UK.

Sod the Scottish farmers and spare a thought for the compulsive-obsessive watch collector, I say !! :o

I've got 150+ 7A38's to roll forward one hour on, synchronising with the Atomic clock, and at the same time ....

checking / noting their accuracy over the last 6 months, rolling forward any dates, and looking for any low battery tell-tales.

Needless to say this unnecessary bi-annual activity takes me ages. So stuff the official line. I'm going to start early - tonight !

I do bother Paul, but only on my non-automatic watches (which have obviously all stopped!!).

I guess for me the number of quartz watches I own is about 35 (ish - I ought to do a re-count really). And, some of these are radio controlled. So I would guess only about 25 or so to do. Nothing like your task.

Your post does answer a question I've been pondering these last few months - "how many 7A38's does Paul own?"

The constant gardener :-)

When I say '7A38's, Simon ;) .... that does, naturally, include all the (non-Seiko branded) 7A38 clones:

Yema and Jaz N8's; Kamatz 5xxxxx's; Orient J39's; Puma Y19's; Junghans V906's and Cartier Ferrari Formula Cal. 531's.

Just did a quick tally in my head, and they account for almost a third of my collection. :)

150+:o  I feel so lazy now.  I've only got about a dozen and I can't even be be bothered to do those.  It's such a pain, I really wish they would do away with it.

I've got one watch that I will be setting tonight:  the one on my wrist.

An arduous but relatively simple task for you, Paul?

At least all yours follow an identical routine of setting.

If I were to attempt to set what i've got upstairs it'd take until the end of the summer to work out how to set them all. :D

I have a 'similar' size collection to Paul that includes a lot of other brands and many mechanicals.  I wear mine in ½ daily rotation, 1 for work, 1 in the evening so they all get to be worn within 3-4 months.  The batteries are all fitted by reputable jewellers and as batteries fade rather than die I simply alter the time when it's time to wear it and get the battery changed if needs be.

Why waste your time re-setting them all at once? For me, opening the individual watch box to reveal the watch I will be wearing gives me as much pleasure as wearing it, rather than staring at them all in a big glass case.

Well the silly hour change has been and gone, did I re-set all my watches?

Nah....because most of them do not work,LOL.

I can see Pauls predicament, the strive for perfection is a difficult path to tread, but to see all those sub-seconds hands line up in synchronicity is an achievment in itself !  8)
