Now THAT is what you call EXTREMELY fortuitous timing on Ron's part. I reckon he must have been reading this thread !! ;)

The only reason I can think for anyone really wanting to buy it is if they had one of Ron Canda's (49Ronnie on eBay) salesman's sample case / bracelets sat waiting. It would make an ideal donor for the dial / movement and the missing bracelet end links and clasp.

In case anybody is thinking that I in any way manipulated or influenced this situation (other than Kit not bidding on that 7A28-7079) ....

I was as intrigued myself. So this morning I sent an email to Ron Canda, asking the question. He just replied:

Paul: That was sheer coincidence. I did not even know what you put on your watch forum.

Feels like deja vu, and it'll probably realise OK money but, just NO!

Feels like a potential case of double déjà vu to me, James. ;)

This time last year, this kind of ex-Filipino (and particulary Badingski) botched-up junk would be the sort of thing you'd be expecting Time_Classics or Timely_Classic as they became, to pounce on and re-sell weeks later, to some gullible punter for double the price.

Once again you beat me to it, James. :P I wouldn't personally have added it onto this particular thread, because it will undoubtedly realize half-decent money. I'll probably post it somewhere else later, in another suitable thread (for the bezel insert, if no other reason).

A lot of Junk down here on the bottom today

Well done, Andre. ;)

I thought I'd leave that very tired gold-tone 7A38-7000, which I had seen a few days ago, for somebody else to post for a change. :P

Clearly it has suffered from either water ingress / and / or battery acid leakage at some point. Note the polished battery -ve terminal.

But I hadn't seen that other '7A38' Bitza / Franken - because it was listed as a 7T34-6A0A. Hmmm. Interesting. :/

So it's another very well worn gold tone 7A38-7000 fitted with the 708L dial from a two-tone 7A38-7060 and a 7T34-6A0A case-back.

But can anybody else (besides me) hazard a guess as to the origins of the Tachymeter ring and hands used building this Franken ?

What ?  Nobody going to have a shot at it ?

The clue is in the green lettering on the Tachymeter scale - which comes from an Orient J39908-70, like this:

As do almost all of the hands.

The hand fitted to the constant seconds sub-dial is slightly thicker and doesn't have that little tail, so it might be from the 7A38-7060.

There's SO MUCH over-priced 7Axx JUNK washing up in the 'Bay lately.

Yet another that appears to have suffered water-damage - this time a two-tone 7A48-5000, without bracelet, just listed on eBay Italy:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290895640685

DA RIVEDERE:

come orologio funziona, il cronografo parte regolarmente, sembra non aggire il pulsante a ore 10 che dovrebbe fungere da azzeramento cronografia

le condizioni sono quelle della foto, il bracciale non è disponibile.

At a very "unitalian" price!  One would at least expect 300 Euros for such a gently worn hard to find masterpiece! :D

I thought it was already well over-priced (for the condition) at 39.99 Euros, Harry !!

Seems that was the general consensus. Common sense prevailed and it went unsold:

What did surprise me was the amount of interest in these two - particulary the complete and utter (7A38-7000 cased) Franken:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140948538038

Both won, incidentally by the same person, whose eBay ID shows as 7***y (460) - he sniped them both in the last 4 seconds. Why ? :/

This auction listing on eBay in the States ended about half an hour ago and should provide someone with endless scope for tinkering:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171039273545

Photos indicate they were L-R: gold-tone 7T32-6A50, two-tone 7A38-7289 and a 7A28-7049 (minus bezel). Seller's description stated:

All are quartz wrist watches and all have a band. The yellow one is missing the case back, the 2 tone is missing the crystal and the stainless steel watch is missing the front bezel. I did not open them to inspect them, so I am selling all as part watches or watches that will need to be repaired. These will come in handy for band parts, case parts and movement parts. Maybe you can fix some of them up.

Here's an odd listing by a French eBay seller which caught my eye.

If I've understood the description correctly, the watch on the right isn't actually included in the sale. :/

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390598246328

RARE SEIKO SPEEDMASTER MOUV 7A28

RARE SEIKO SPEEDMASTER

LA VENTE CONCERNE LA SEIKO BLANCHE

TRES BON ETAT COSMETIQUE

LA MONTRE FONCTIONNE MAIS PAS LE CHRONO QUI EST A REVISER

MOUVEMENT 7A28

They were both once obviously JDM 7A28-7010's, but what the heck is the blue dial / movement fitted in the one on the right ?

Well, 3 months on, the French eBay seller has now decided it's time to part with that odd-looking 7A28-701x Franken on the right.

He listed it earlier this evening in a job lot with a 7T34:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390657055168

LOT DE 2 CHRONOS SEIKO 7A28 et 7T34

LOT DE DEUX CHRONOS SEIKO POUR PIECES

MODELES RARES COMPLETS 7A28 ET 7T34

LES DEUX MODELES FONCTIONNENT MAIS LES POUSSOIRS SONT DURS ET LES CHRONOS NE FONCTIONNENT PAS

I'm still none the wiser about the origins of the dial in that 7A28 Franken. Check out the 1/10 second sub-dial's (1-12) markings !!

Haven't seen a movement exactly like that but probably has the guts of a fake inside it... The crown looks way too big :o

Saw a couple of 7T32 fakes over the weekend, one with non-functioning sub dials painted on the face

I added this sorry-looking gold-tone 7A38-7060 to my eBay watching page earlier this week. It was only listed on eBay.com (not co.uk):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290988404039

SEIKO SPEEDMASTER GP CHRONOGRAPH QUARTZ DAY-DATE

7A38-7060

For Repairs Parts

JAPAN

Only Time Keeping is Fine / No chrono function...

- Normal Aged condition.

- 37mm x 43mm Size, 20mm Lug Size

- Clean Dial

- Clean Glass

- Missing Inner Tachymeter scale bezel

- Time keeping is fine, but chrono function and button didn't work...

- Band will fit up to 7" wrist, Many wears on it

- Sold as is for Repair or Parts

The reason it attracted my attention was it's one of the 'Made in Korea' versions of the gold-tone 7A38-7060, discussed in this thread.

Look at the bottom of the dial in the first photo - there's no 'JAPAN' printed and the dial number is 708M (modified) instead of 708L.

The third of the seller's photo I've included shows the KOREA SV case-back stamping and the different p/n AB022 bracelet fitted.

But even though I think I've got a spare gold Tachymeter ring in my bits box, this one was just too tired and worn looking to bother. :(

The eBay auction ended 10 minutes ago, with it selling for only $22.50 (approx. £14.00):

I guess I found another one for your collection of bottom of the barrel bargains... only that this does not seem like a bargain to me:

Somehow I'd missed seeing that listed on eBay before, George .... but as soon as I clicked on the link, I had a definite case of déjà vu.

The would-be seller Yeki89 posted the first photo on SCWF, back in July (as a belated add-on to a thread about 7A38-7280's):

http://www.thewatchsite.com/16-seiko-reviews/16335-seiko-7a38-7280-speedy.html#post338110

Re: SEIKO 7A38-7280 "Speedy"

I gotta get a new crystal on mine...

You've got to love his optimism - and his description of it:

SILVER SEIKO 7A38-7280, WATCH is in good CONDITION!!

I tested the watch, and it works.

Missing the crystal

Ahem - and the bezel - and the Tachymeter ring (plus their gaskets) - and a well buggered sweep hand to boot !

Noticed he's currently offering a $50 discount from his original asking price of $299 - down to 'only' $249 at present.

Move the decimal point to make it $24.99 and that might be getting close to being a bottom of the barrel bargain fixer-upper.

Move the decimal point one step further, please and then I would consider getting it... if ever. :P

I spotted this 7A38-7020 parts watch last week and thought I'd have a punt (or two) at it.

Bearing in mind this thread started by a new member: http://www.seiko7a38.com/apps/forums/topics/show/9402522-7a38-7020-band

The watch was clearly water damaged, but probably would have yielded a half decent B1171S bracelet, and quite a bit more besides:

Orologio seiko cronografo 7A38 non funzionate per ricambi

Orologio seiko cronografo 7A38 non funzionate per ricambi cinturino originale fibbia originale

I put in a second 'throwaway' bid of 45.67 Euros, with about an hour to go - not really expecting to win it for that. I didn't. :(

It may look like irredeemable junk to some, but IMHO whoever won it for 52 Euros got himself a useful parts / project watch.
