As indeed appears to be the case - sold at lunchtime today .... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143113896304
The selling price confirmed by the WatchCount.com search result:
Personally, I think you had a lucky escape. There are far better examples (on their original bracelets) to be found, especially at that kind of price.

This 7A38-6000 in average worn condition, but with a couple of noticeably deep dings, was listed this morning by an Australian eBay seller as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of $100 Au. Note the seller's (possibly) interesting aside in his description. Were it me, I'd be reluctant to split them up. But then I'm a hoarder. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202593059503
7a38 6000 silver 'Panda' dial, with blue minutes timer bezel s/n # 496533 Purchased from the original owner, who bought new in the mid eighties...then forgot about her. This all seems consistent with its apparently original condition, and it appears to not to have been polished, and also looks to have its original "crystal". But, this also means that there are many scratches, dings and marks everywhere (!), but I think she still looks gorgeous, and "honest". I'm fairly sure it is the correct G1157S bracelet and end links (but if its not, please let me know), which shows a fair degree of stretch and sag. Serviced by local Seiko agent about 8 months ago, and working perfectly. (During the service the seconds sweep hand was replaced with a NOS, as it appeared to have been damaged at some point in the past) No original box or paperwork. As a (possibly) interesting aside, I unwittingly also have the consecutive s/n (496534), 7a38 6000 purchased from Italy! I'm selling a number of watches primarily because I'm not wearing each of them enough to justify them (or as my wife says, "stop being a manchild and just get rid of them" ) Please feel free to ask for anymore information or for specific photographs, if it helps your decision. International buyers welcome. I'm happy to supply free shipping within Australia, however international shipping would be at cost with either FedEx or DHL. (and any import duties or other such costs will be yours) The photographs are an important part of the description, and as a private seller I don't offer a warranty or any price variations. However I'm happy to fully refund upon return if I have been unfairly misleading (return shipping at your cost).

The above 7-day auction for a 7A38-6000 in average worn condition, ended a few moments ago, selling for a very respectable $566.56 Au. (equivalent to $405 USD / £314 GBP) after 31 bids. Well done the seller - forum member Lyndon. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202593059503

This well worn 7A38-6000, fitted not only with a tatty and obviously non-original bezel insert and a two-piece NATO strap in place of the original bracelet, was listed yesterday evening by a US eBay seller, with an absolutely ridiculous 'pie-in-the-sky' Buy-it-Now price of $475 (and currently no option to make an offer). FWIW, it's being offered through eBay's dysfunctional GSP programme, which for anybody foolish enough to contemplate using it, would add another $160 in charges. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273804526076
Edit: My bad - the clearly deluded US eBay seller has since seen fit to increase his already risible Buy-it-Now price from $475 to $500 !! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273804526076

This 7A38-6000, in average worn condition, was listed at lunchtime today by an Italian eBay seller as a 10-day auction, with a possibly over-optimistic opening bid price of 499 Euros. Academic as it happens .... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293081709041

I say 'academic', because by the time I got home this evening and sat down at my PC, the seller had already ended the listing allegedly because of an error. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293081709041

Indeed, I can't always be sat at my home PC, waiting for the next eBay listing (or re-listing) to pop up, so I can post about it here. Occasionally I'll miss the odd one or two, but most get picked by my automated saved searches. It transpires that the Italian eBay seller re-listed that 7A38-6000 yesterday morning - again as a 10-day auction, but with the opening bid price increased from 499 Euros to a highly over-optimistic 700 Euros, with the option to make an offer. It sold later that morning. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293082793403
The eBay Bid / Offer History shows it sold for the opening bid price of 700 Euros ....
.... which frankly I found difficult to believe. Thankfully we have WatchCount.com's helpful tools to give us the true picture. This search on completed items reveals it actually sold for a best offer of 500 Euros. Still too much for this example, IMHO.

Checking my eBay watching page, I noticed that well-worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a tatty non-original bezel insert and NATO strap, listed by a US eBay seller a month ago, appears to have sold yesterday evening. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273804526076
The eBay Purchase history shows that it 'Sold as a special offer'.
That's a new one on me. As yet, even using WatchCount.com's various search options, I haven't managed to uncover what price it may actually have sold for.

Hardly worthy of mention, really. So I'll keep it short. No doubt, a good many readers will already have noticed that bitter deranged http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123806177114
The title of his listing is of course copied verbatim from the title of this thread.
I would just like to assure readers that I still own my much-loved 7A38-6000 'Dinky Diver' and that I have absolutely no intention of selling it. Unless of course, some deranged fool offers me $2000 Au. for it. That's £1089 in real money, incidentally. *Amusingly, as something of an unintentional sideways compliment, that raving idiot aussiewatches has today changed his eBay ID to seiko7a38forum !!

This somewhat less than original 7A38-6000, fitted with a non-original replacement 'jubilee' style Seiko bracelet, was listed on Yahoo Japan earlier today, as a 3-day auction, with an opening bid price of 1 Yen. There is also the option, for anybody stupid enough, of a 'Prompt Decision' Buy-it-Now price of 248,000 Yen (equivalent to $2294 USD). Apart from the wrong bracelet, it's fitted with a domed plexi crystal and a black generic bezel insert (which sounds like it's fouling on the crystal). All the mods are disclosed in the seller's lengthy description. He's also including in the sale, a NOS Seiko p/n YA29A bracelet (for the JDM 7A38-6040). This is effectively the same as the G1157S bracelet for a 7A38-6000, but fitted with a Speedmaster clasp. I can't help thinking he might have done better by listing that separately.

Google translates the Japanese seller's description as follows: Thank you very much for taking a look. Very rare vintage [SEIKO 7A38-6000] will be. This Quartz chronograph is a model for domestic export overseas export in 1984, which is a rare third dial in Seiko. The in-dial color looks black, but it is dark navy. Because there was no domestic sale, there was almost no domestic distribution. There are scratches on the case and back cover, but the bracelet is a new Jubilee bracelet for Seiko Boys Divers, and it is fitted with a 20 mm to 18 mm fit tube. We also attach unused dead stock of helmet bracelet for 7A38-6040 for domestic use. The bezel insert also has an after-parts bezel for boy's divers, and is color-matched to the navy with a color process according to the in-dial. The color of the in-dial and bezel seems to be similar to the third picture. Both rotating bezels are quite rigid due to the replacement of the bezel insert, but it is possible to rotate. The windshield currently contains a dome plastic windshield. There are no noticeable scratches. I also attach the new mineral glass of 1.5mm thickness x 28.5mm same as the original size. Case diameter about 37mm (excluding crown) lug width: 18mm almost no deviation of time. I think that it is a normal quartz level. The operation of the chronograph is also normal. The 2 o'clock position pusher does not work well. I was disassembling and cleaning the pusher, but I could not see any debris, so I think it is a problem with pusher packing. I think if there is a problem in the movement if you can press strongly at the start & stop of the chronograph. I feel the weight when pulling the crown, there is no problem in use. Of course there is no problem with fast-forwarding of the date and time. The day of the week disk is written like English and Roman numerals for overseas use. The bracelet is about 18 cm around the arm at present, and it can be extended by about 10 mm with a clasp and contracted by about 10 mm. There are spare pieces, so I will add them. The battery has been replaced with a new one about a month ago. As it is an old one, please think that there is almost no waterproofness. It is very rare and hardly seen in the market, and I think that it is rare to be exhibited domestically. I'm sorry I can't see the photos, but I would like to ask you questions if you have any questions. Since it is a cheap start, I would appreciate your favor by N claim, N return, N cancellation. Notes Per: Second-hand goods, there is a feeling of use, a small wound. Because it is a vintage item, please refrain from bidding for those who like new items and those who are nervous.I need your help by no claim & no return & no cancellation. Other: Bidders with many bad ratings may cancel the bid. I will limit it to those who can do an immediate settlement after a successful bid. Please understand that the successful bidder without transmission of successful bidder information within 12 hours after a successful bid will delete & bad evaluation & blacklist.

The above 3-day Yahoo Japan auction for that rather less than original 7A38-6000, fitted with a non-original Seiko replacement bracelet, ended a few moments ago, the finishing time having been automatically extended by 10 minutes, due to late bids placed. Given the the less than ideal condition, it appears to have sold for a quite incredible ¥150,000 Yen after 41 bids ! http://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u283901307

Well perhaps I should seriously consider putting my 7A38-6000 'Dinky Diver' on eBay with a £1000+ price tag and see if anybody bites. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303200436710
Vintage SEIKO 7A38 6000 Chronograph Sports 100 Divers Quartz Day Date Watch Manufacturer: SEIKO Model: 7A38 6000 Sports 100 Chronograph Gender: Mens
Complete With: N/A Dial: Silver Dial with Blue Sub Dials Glass: Saphire Crystal Movement: Quartz Water Resistance: Due to the age of the watch, water resistance is not guaranteed. We do not suggest submersing this watch in water unless you have this resealed by an authorised technician Case: Stainless Steel Bezel: Rotational Divers Bezel
Buckle Material: Stainless Steel Tang Strap: Aftermarket Blue Leather Strap Case Size: 37mm excluding crown & pushers Lug Width: 18mm Condition Report: This Seiko is a in fair/good condition given the age of the watch. The bezel insert is certainly worn as you can see by the pictures but the bezel is in good shape and rotates. It still clicks, the click ball is present but the bezel does feel loose. It will not come off without some heavy force applied but it does feel loose. The dial is in great condition with no signs of previous intervention. The watch is working and keeping accurate time with a fresh Renata battery replacement. All functions work correctly and as they should. The World has definitely gone mad (for Seiko 7A38-6000's) ! Much to my disbelief, that well-worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a leather strap has already sold earlier this evening against a best offer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303200436710
The eBay Purchase History shows only two offers were made. I made one.
Unfortunately WatchCount.com's normally superbly reliable look-up tool is again suffering from a recurring glitch, so I can't post the actual selling price at present.
Edit: WatchCount.com is now displaying this banner message which explains:
However I have it on good authority that the best offer accepted was for £400.
Belated Edit (24th August 2019): Some 2 months later, using the latest 'eBay workaround', I'm finally able to officially confirm that well-worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a leather strap, did sell for a Best Offer of £400, as revealed by this alternative link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=303200436710

Another well-worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a blue leather strap in place of the original bracelet, was listed earlier this afternoon by a Macedonian eBay seller as a 7-day auction, with what I'd consider a highly over-optimistic opening bid price of $488. But then I've written words to that effect before about other 'lesser' examples. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303209753980

Well, I really don't know quite what to make of that. Checking my eBay watching page, that well-worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a leather strap sold yesterday evening, less than 2 hours after I'd made my previous post. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303209753980
Presumably it sold for a best offer, rather than the $488 opening bid price, but with the current glitch, a WatchCount.com search result doesn't show any different.
Belated Update (25th August): Somewhat later than planned, using the latest eBay 'BO workaround', I'm now able to confirm that well worn 7A38-6000, fitted with a leather strap, did indeed actually sell for $488, but as Buy-it-Now. As shown by this alternative eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItemVersion&item=303209753980

So it goes on - yet another tired example of a 7A38-6000 surfaces. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333263937168
Rare Vintage Seiko Panda Chronograph Sports 100 #7A38-6000 Quartz Men's Watch!!! — Up for auction is this lovely, vintage and highly coveted SEIKO Panda Chronograph Sports 100 Diver’s watch. This watch just had a BRAND NEW battery inserted into it in July 10, 2019, and according to the jeweler that inserted the new battery, it is fully functional and working very well. I have been testing it for accurate time keeping for roughly 24 hours now, and it is keeping excellent time. It does show some signs of wear, but considering it’s rather old age, it is in rather good cosmetic condition, in my opinion. PLEASE refer to the photos for a more comprehensive understanding of the specific cosmetic condition of the watch, as it is the photos that can best describe and reveal to you the specific cosmetic condition of this vintage Seiko watch. If you possess a keen interest in vintage watches, I will be listing many more onto ebay over the next few months, so please check my page from time to time to view the wide variety of watches that will soon be listed for sale. Thank You. FREE SHIPPING!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for viewing this listing, and have a blessed day!

The above US eBay auction for a well-worn 7A38-6000 'Head Only' ended earlier this morning (about an hour ago) selling for the opening bid price of $305. Nobody had bid on it during the last 10 days and it looked like it might possibly go unsold, but then somebody sniped it in the closing seconds. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333263937168

From one extreme to another. Just after Midday yesterday (UK time), this NOS 7A38-6000 was listed by an Italian eBay seller, with a Buy-it-Now price of 749 Euros, or the option to make an offer. Whereas that might sound a bit expensive, compared to the prices the preceding sub-standard examples have sold for, it's almost reasonable. It's certainly a lot less than some of the ridiculous Buy-it-Now prices that other Italian eBay sellers have tried asking in years gone by. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264415261431
I sell this wonderful and now unobtainable Seiko 7A38 6000 in new old stock conditions, that is a real stock found never sold and never even tried on the wrist. This watch is completely original and is one of the most beautiful watches in the catalog of the Seiko Sports 100 series, a collection created for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The characteristic "panda" style dial with the 3 dark blue petrol counters (more unique than rare in the years of 7A38) make it certainly one of the most sought after by collectors of this historic Japanese brand. I had the battery replaced a few days ago and walked perfectly, no oxide because the watch was always locked in a safe and had previously been left without a battery. The chronometer also works perfectly, soft and firm buttons; start, stop and reset ... all perfect! The watch has a rotating bezel on both sides and is a water resistant though it is not guaranteed for use in water as the original seal seems to have flattened a little in these 35 years! Really collector's watch already inserted by Seiko in her Hall of fame. Complete with original box, instructions and warranty in white which I will send you only to complete the full set. Buy an investment today that will be re-evaluated over the years. Don't miss it! I ship quickly with an insured or with DHL courier. Preferred Paypal payment or you can do a recharge card. P.S. I was really very clear, take a good look at all the photographs and read the whole description well as they are a very precise and prepared type. I am sure to sell you an amazing watch and therefore I will not admit any kind of criticism, complaint or return. Watch only for true connoisseurs! The eBay Purchase History doesn't show the actual Buy-it-Now transaction, but reveals that two offers were made and summarily declined. The uppermost was made by that loathesome profiteering Cypriot eBay re-seller hattori_cy. Hopefully, instead, it's gone to a new owner or collector who will cherish and keep it, rather than someone solely out to cash in on the current 'boom' and make a fast profit.
Not surpisingly, it had sold by mid-afternoon for the 749 Euros Buy-it-Now price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264415261431

When a grail appears... aaand its gone. Listing only lasted for 3 hours, and I was too late to the party. I contacted the seller and apparently it sold to a lucky person in Denmark. I think the price is reasonable for a NOS of this model. Feels like many ended up in Italy, do you know anything about what markets they were sold to?
