Hi, my name is Rowan. I just started collecting watches recently and I was looking for a BYBM watch. 7A movement caught my eye since it was introduced close to my birth year (1984) and the history behind it is really cool. I've been looking at sites and eyeing possible purchases but, aside from it being difficult to find a 7A BYBM watch, it's also difficult to find a reputable seller. I often see modified 7As and I figured reading more about it in this forum would educate me more when I see a possible watch for purchase.

Hi all,

I'm Joe and new to the forum. I recently discovered these beautiful watches after watching a video praising the 7a28 as one of Seiko's best ever movements. I'm so excited to own one that I've decided to sell my only existing watch (a vintage Yema diver) to buy one of these.

Frankly, I got a bit lost looking at all the different models that are available, so reading through these forums and particularly looking at the wristwatch thread has been really helpful to see the different watches out there and what the model numbers are. I have fallen for the stainless steel 7a38 7280 (I think its also called the 7289?) and it's white dial. I'd love to wear this watch at my wedding - scheduled for August (though who knows right now, the way things are going).

However, reading through the ebay watch and Franken forums here, I've become a little terrified by the extent of the selling of franken watches and overpricing that you have tirelessly reported on this site!

I really don't want to be ripped off, and i'm wondering where is a safe place to turn when looking for one of these watches. And what kind of price should I reasonably be expected to pay? It looks from what I see on ebay like the prices have skyrocketed in the last 3 years, for example the only stainless 7280 I can see on ebay currently is listed with a buy it now price of over £900. Is that accurate, or just ebay sellers trying their luck? Many thanks to anyone who can advise with this!

Joe

Joe. It's frequently chancers and speculators just trying their luck - particularly that stainless 7A38-7280 listed by a Japanese eBay seller that you cite (who's asking a ludicrous $1129). You should be able to pick up a very nice example for less than a quarter of that price - in the range $250 - $300 (even at today's inflated prices). ;)

Hello my name is Saul, I inherited a 7A38-7190 early Last year which really got me into collecting vintage seikos. I now have a number of vintage 5s, dx, and 7As.

Hello,

I'm Andrei and I discovered this website a year and 6 days ago when I bought a Seiko 7A38 from the flea market.

Since then for various reasons (and not all of them valid) I've been delaying my posts here. Today I've decided it's time to contribute back and start posting :)

Hello all,

I'm finally here! After a few mishaps with my spam filter my membership was finally approved. I've been lurking around for a while and after acquiring my first 7a38-7020 it was just downhill from there. I'm learning more about these great watches every day and hope to continue learning from everyone here.

Hi,

I'm Andrew from Malaysia. I was itching to purchase a 7a38-7020, and that was brought me here. Unfortunately, I was not able to find another and made an impulse purchase on a 7T34-7A10 to scratch my dodecagon itch.  I guess this this is me falling into the vintage seiko rabbit hole.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard Andrew and David. :)

And not least albeit somewhat belatedly, Andrei. Keep up the contributions. ;)

My apologies to all other recently joined members - on behalf of my Webs host, for the problems I've been experiencing recently with the Control Panel Members app - and for not acknowledging their presence earlier.

Hi All, I'm Lucy (nickname since I was a kid, to do with my surname) real name Steve,

Purchased my first watch (with my own wages) around 1980, this was a Seiko 7123-8370. Subsequently purchased a 7a38-7000 gold around 1984, a Digi-Analog - H557-503A around late 80's and a Pilots Chronograph - 7t34-6A00 early 90's.

I still own all of the watches and apart from the Pilots watch not functioning correctly the other three work perfectly and not looking too bad after 30+ years.

I'm not a watch collector I just have an avid interest in watches in general, owning vintage Seiko's does sway my interest a little though :)
