Would I be correct in assuming that all Seiko quartz watches of the 7A series are 15-jewel ones?  I ask because though my inclination is toward 7A28s and 7A38s, my site-surfing and auction ambles have turned up some other models that also appeal to me.  If there are other 15-jewel models, I'd love to know that.

I look forward to being enlightened on this point.

Thanks.

Yes, all Seiko 7Axx movements have 15 jewels, although you may encounter some mis-informed eBay sellers who are under the delusion that some have 17. Dunno where that 'myth' comes from but you'll see it churned out fairly regularly in descriptions.

I don't think there is any modern equivalent quartz chronograph movement - certainly not among the 7Txx range.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think even the HAQ 7J21 movement has any jewels (at all).

Couple of examples here in old FS adverts on WUS:

Edit: No correction needed. 8) I found a photo of one:

Pressed tin backplate looks very much like a 7Txx's - stamped NO JEWELS. :P

Thank you, sir.  Knowing this will give me a wider range of choices for future shopping.  Appreciate your response.

Actually, I may unwittingly have given you some slightly duff info there, Najeeb, where I wrote:

If you've read bottom of page 8 and top of page 9 of this thread, you'll see forum member Arpad (Gamarp) has just collared a 7A36.

Thing about the 7A36 Surf Timer is it doesn't have a 1/10s chrono' sub-dial / hand. :(

Whether that means Seiko omitted the 1/10s chrono' bridge from the movement, I'm not sure (never having seen a 7A36 movement).

But if they did, it would be one less jewel. :P

As now I have a 7A36 movement in hand I'm brave enough to reply here :)

Let me share couple of pics which will be self explanatory:

Interestingly the 7A36 has only 9 jewels. The complete 1/10 second assembly is missing.

Interesting indeed Arpad.

There must be more than just the 1/10s chrono' bridge omitted for the 7A36A movement to have 6 less jewels than all other 7Axx's.

I was wondering if it might possibly use a cut-down main train wheel bridge and was planning to do a comparison between the 7A36 and 7A38(A)'s bills of materials / parts lists. Unfortuately there's no data for the 7A36A movement on Seiko Oceania's database. :(

Ever interested how the 7A36 movement looks closer? :P

After almost a year I had time to take some photos about the movement.
