The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Today I'm wearing this NOS condition Yema N8 Flygraf. Pity about the annoying reflection caught by the domed crystal.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
I'm wearing one of my favourite non-Seiko 7A38's on this dull overcast Monday morning - an Orient J39701-70 with the 1985 Indianapolis 500 dial logo. I may have posted this one fairly recently - a couple of months ago. What the heck.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
I'm being lazy this morning. Instead of getting out another collection box, I plumped for a handy 'grab and go' watch - one of my stainless 7A38-7020 SAA009J 'beaters'. I really ought to stop referring to watches like these as 'beaters', because this one's actually much better than that. All you can fault this otherwise almost pristine example on, are the couple of tiny dings which mar the edge of the bottom L.H. lug.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
This morning I made an effort to get that collection box out - it was almost at the bottom of the stack. Judging by the last time I posted wrist shots of watches in that box, it's been over two years since it had seen the light of day. Hardly surprising that nine (in the 24 slot box) needed replacement batteries, which I've been working on for the last hour or so. The first battery I replaced was in my NOS condition 7A38-7140 SAA051J, which I've owned since December 2010.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
The adjacent slot in that collection box holds my NOS condition 7A38-714A SAA049J. This one's a comparatively recent acquisition (only 3 years ago), so the battery was still going strong.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
The other reason I wanted to get that collection box out was to re-home my recently acquired mint condition stainless 7A38-7140 SAA047J. As it happened there was a vacant slot next to my other 7A38-7140's and 7A38-714A. Sorted !
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Wearing my old favourite Yema Spationaute III Aragatz mission flags 'bitza' this morning, after hurriedly replacing its battery. I wasn't quite quick enough to catch the brief gap between the showers, so please excuse the tiny raindrops.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Wearing my JDM titanium 7A38-7030 SJS018 this sunny SUNday morning, for the first time in over 2 years.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
I'm planning to work through my 7A38-704x's this week, so I'll make my apologies for unwanted reflections off their domed crystals before I start. Today's wrist shot of my better condition 7A38-7040 SAA019J didn't come out too badly.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
No reflections this morning.
It's raining, so I had to resort to an indoor shot of my 7A38-704A SAA021J.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Rather than fight the reflections on this sunny mid-week morning - and seeing as yesterday's artificially lit indoor shot was passable, I decided to try it again. Here's my 'almost mint' grey PVD coated 7A38-704B SAA023J.
A downside of the harsher lighting is that it serves to expose every little flaw in the vulnerable PVD coating. Note the tiny chips in the edge of the bezel rim and the crown, which I hadn't spotted before.

Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
I've continued to use that same indoor lighting technique for the third watch in this sequence, my 7A38-704C SAA029J.
It came out fine, without the annoying reflections in the crystal, but looking a bit lacklustre. There's a lot of grey. Still my photo's a hundred times better than that of the German eBay seller who I bought it from back in December 2013.

Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
The stainless JDM 7A38-7110 SJS048 uses the same dark grey plastic pushers as the preceding 7A38-704C. It also uses the same domed crystal, which is equally prone to catching reflections in this application. So although it's a nice dry sunny morning, I thought I'd try another artificially lit indoor shot.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Wearing this mint condition Yema Spationaute III Aragatz on this blue SATurday morning. I purchased this particular example, comparatively cheaply, off eBay in the States in August last year. See this thread.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
I nailed this blingy gold-tone Orient J39909-80 together earlier this morning, as a possible temporary solution. See my recent posts in this other thread.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
This is something of a fluke - an extremely lucky shot of my best condition 7A38-713A SAA104J, which I haven't worn in nearly two years. Frankly I dread taking wrist shots of watches like these, with dark dials and gold dial printing, simply because of the difficulty in lighting them adequately. It's been raining again this morning, so I tried a few indoor flashlit shots, which came out a bit harsh (minor understatement). So I discarded them. Then my camera started to 'beep' - low battery warning. I leaned out the back door and hastily rattled off a few more, including this shot:

After yesterday's perfectly lit shot (fluke), today's is a bit of a disappointment. This is my better example of the titanium 7A38-7120 SAA044J. The model featured in a 1986 UK TV advert, the one with the plinky-plinky piano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGiphyRTJ-A

Some watches simply aren't made to last.
Seiko watches are designed to withstand the ravages of both time and fashion.
Some day, perhaps, all watches will be made this way.

Wearing this stainless 7A38-7000 SAA007J beater (which used to be 'El Caracortada') on this sunny Wednesday morning.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Thought I'd slip on something topical this morning, that I haven't worn in ages - my longest-owned 7A38-701B SAA005J 'Vulcan', which has been in my collection since November 2009. It's also the watch in my avatar.
Re: The ONE and ONLY WRUW thread - Part Deux !
Wearing this stainless 7A38-7130 SAA092J on a very unsummery dark and wet UK Friday morning.
