This stainless 7A38-7090 in almost mint condition, was listed on eBay earlier this morning, by an Italian eBay seller, with a very reasonable Buy-it-Now price of 200 Euros. I didn't expect it to hang around unsold for very long.

Seiko 7A38-7090, usato nel senso di vintage ma in condizioni perfette, ancora con pellicola nel retro della cassa, non graffi ne segni, non sembra quasi essere stato usato. Quartz chronograph, datario, A3, 36 mm, water resistant, stainless steel.
A few of the seller's photos were slightly out of focus, so I've only uploaded the best 4 of the 10. As can be seen from them, the watch is as described, little worn complete with JWCII case-back QC inspection sticker.
I was only the second person to view the listing and must admit I was briefly tempted to hit the Buy-it-Now button. But a couple of things put me off: the seller's feedback rating of only one - and the fact they hadn't listed anything in over a year. Plus they weren't offering shipment outside Italy and having encountered some hassle getting other items shipped from EU post 'Brexit' decided against it. Possibly unwisely.

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
To no great surprise, given the price and condition, it sold very quickly for the Buy-it-Now price of 200 Euros.

WatchCount.com's Look-up tool reveals the listing was live for a little over 40 minutes, during which it received 7 views.
The eBay Purchase History doesn't show who actually bought it, but 10 minutes earlier, the seller had declined an offer from someone with a feedback rating of 306.
You only get one guess as to who that might have been. Profiteering Italian eBay re-seller simone00simone.
Simone has been remarkably quiet on eBay so far in 2021, but he's still actively buying and re-selling 7A38's. Instead he's taken to advertising them for sale on the Italian classifieds site Subito. These are the two he's currently listing:
Whether he caved in and paid the Italian eBay seller's full asking price of 200 Euros remains to be seen. I'll keep a careful watching eye on Subito for the next couple of weeks. If it was him, I'll post an update in the eBay section.

Is there such a thing as Abstainer's Remorse ? Do you ever have belated regrets at having deliberately sat on your hands and not bought something - for whatever reason (the most usual being that it looked too good to be true) ?
No great surprise, a week later, that mint condition stainless 7A38-7090 was back on eBay with a markedly increased Buy-it-Now price of 550 Euros. Although that's the minimum price I thought he might have asked, given the chance, to my relief it wasn't profiteering Italian eBay re-seller Simone who listed it early this morning, but the original Italian eBay seller annruff1, still with a feedback of 1. They've only uploaded 4 photos to this re-listing, which on checking were actually all included in the previous set of 10, but 3 have been rotated through 90°.

The description is only slightly different from their previous listing:
Seiko 7A38-7090, Originale degli anni 80, in condizioni perfette, ancora con pellicola nel retro della cassa, non graffi ne segni, non presenta segni di utilizzo. Non ha graffi sul vetro, né sul bracciale, né sulla cassa. Ha ancora il bollino sul retro. Quartz chronograph, datario, A3, 36 mm, water resistant, stainless steel. No scatola, né documentazione.

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
I've no idea what may have made them realize they were under-selling it, when they briefly listed it first time around, but I suspect this lesser, well-worn example listed yesterday evening by US eBay seller / dealer naja-simon, with a typically over-optimistic Buy-it-Now price of $475 may have provided them inspiration for their price increase:

Note that once again this incompetent botcher claims the watch has been serviced (per his unsold stainless 7A38-7140). This time it's not the rotary step switch that's missing, but the centre seconds finger tension spring !

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
Yesterday, while checking my eBay watching page, I'd noticed that the Italian eBay seller's re-listing was coming to the end of its first 30-day listing cycle (just after 7:00am this morning). Earlier in the week, I received one of those mildly annoying unsolicited offers from eBay, offering 31% discount, bringing the Buy-it-Now price down to 'only' 380 Euros.
Rather than decline (and tell the seller how far they could ....) I just ignored it. Seems that everybody else did too.
But earlier in the proceedings, someone else had been trying very hard - only to be ignored themselves. As revealed by the eBay Offer History.
At the risk of repeating myself ....

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
I ought to add a couple of belated updates to this thread. Firstly I have a small confession to make. In the last week of April, I made the Italian eBay seller an offer (strictly lowball, naturally) on that NOS condition stainless 7A38-7090.
Initially I offered 250 Euros, confident they wouldn't accept. To my surprise rather than reject it, they replied with a counter-offer of 350 Euros. I responded with another counter-offer of 300 Euros (more than I realistically wanted to pay). The seller didn't respond and simply allowed my counter offer to expire (as evidenced in the eBay Offer History).
As can be seen from that updated screen print, the Italian eBay seller declined another offer yesterday. No great surprise, it was from profiteering re-seller simone00simone. That was his 10th offer. So he hasn't given up trying !
Thing is, had the seller accepted my counter-offer and I'd then purchased it through eBay, that 300 Euros would have automatically had 20% VAT added at checkout, becoming 360 Euros (+ postage) - certainly more than I wanted to pay. Over the last month or so, I've traded dozens of emails with the seller, discussing buying it directly from them outside eBay. To say they are 'hard work' would be a polite understatement. Sometimes a week and more would pass, without a reply. They've also use 3 different email addresses, which is rather disconcerting ! I'd been waiting for them to come back with a realistic postage cost (using Poste Italiane Raccomandata), which they eventually did yesterday morning.

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
Funnily enough, another email which arrived in my inbox yesterday morning was a new listing notification from Subito. The Italian seller had listed it on there two hours before replying to my email. They're clearly hedging their bets.

Note that whereas Anna has written the model number correctly in her description, her title erroneously ends in 20.

Re: Nice condition 7A38-7090 SAA035J on eBay Italy
It's obviously in very nice almost mint condition and whereas 'NOS is always nice to have', frankly I really don't need another. I already have a decent condition used example in my collection, which I purchased back in September 2010 off eBay Germany. Checking my records, I paid 166 Euros for it at the time. This morning I got it out of the collection box just to check if it still fitted my wrist (I've gained a few pounds over the last decade, particularly since 'Lockdown'). The bracelet has 2 less adjustment links than the NOS example under discussion, so it's tight, but not uncomfortably so. It also has a minor graze on the bezel, near 2 o'clock. Here's a slightly different wrist shot to the one I posted earlier in the WRUW thread.
As I captioned my WRUW post:
As I captioned my WRUW post:
So, despite the allure of 'NOS', I honestly can't see the point of buying another example that I'll probably never wear. My other motive in negotiating a lower price had been to prevent it falling into Simone's greedy hands. So please can somebody offer Anna 350 Euros and put an end this saga ? If you need her direct email address(es), drop me a PM.

Checking my eBay watching page, I see that well-worn stainless 7A38-7090, which was also listed in March, by US eBay seller naja-simon finally sold yesterday evening for an undisclosed best offer. Note he's since changed his eBay user ID to voskiwatch - presumably to match his Instagram handle.Seiko7A38 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 12:39 pmI've no idea what may have made them realize they were under-selling it, when they briefly listed it first time around, but I suspect this lesser, well-worn example listed yesterday evening by US eBay seller / dealer naja-simon, with a typically over-optimistic Buy-it-Now price of $475 may have provided them inspiration for their price increase:
