This 'NOS' condition 7A38-7040 SAA019J was listed by an Italian eBay seller yesterday evening, as a 10-day auction with a possibly over-optimistic opening bid of 450 Euros. I must say, it makes a refreshing change for an Italian seller not to be claiming this is a 'Giugiaro design'. Instead, he's cleverly implied it. Although the watch still has a JWCII inspection sticker and the case-back protection film is largely intact, it's probably best described as 'shop-soiled'. It doesn't take any more than a cursory examination of the seller's photos to see that the dark grey PVD coating is far from perfect. There are quite a few small chips around the bezel rim and another on the bracelet.

NOS 7A38-7040 SAA019J listed on eBay Italy
Re: NOS 7A38-7040 SAA019J listed on eBay Italy
So is it worth 450 Euros in this condition ? Difficult to say, in today's climate of inflated 7A38 prices. There have been a few NOS examples of 7A38-7040 SAA019J listed on eBay in recent years - mostly in Italy. Unfortunately I haven't kept a record of them, apart from my own example, which is in better cosmetic condition, with minimal loss of PVD coating. It was listed as a Buy-it-Now for 400 Euros at the end of April 2018. I first offered 300 Euros; the seller countered with 350 Euros and a deal was done. Here's most of the eBay listing photos:

The 10-day Italian eBay auction for that NOS 7A38-7040 ended yesterday evening, with a single bid placed in the closing seconds, selling for the opening bid price of 450 Euros.

So after all it was 450. That was in nice condition.

There was another NOS condition 7A38-7040 listed on eBay yesterday evening, by another Italian eBay seller. It's a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of 550 Euros. Based on the previously cited example, I guess it will probably sell.

There's one small issue - a niggling trivial one really, which only pedants like me might worry about.
The seller has included a hang tag. It's not actually mentioned in the description, but can be seen in 6 of the 12 photos:
It's the wrong tag for a 7A38-7040, which per the title of this thread is sales code SAA019J. The SAA023J tag belongs to one of its siblings, the 7A38-704B with yellow plastic pushers, chronograph hands and dial printing.
