Roger Moore's 7A28-????

Post by RayBani »

Hi. I have been trying to find out what is the watch Roger Moore is wearing in the movie A View to a Kill. Some sites say it's the 7A28-7020 but the bracelet looks like the one I have on the 7A38-702A.
So what I think I'm looking for is White dial two tone maybe just golden hands, 7A28 with Sunburst subdials with 702A like bracelet, big black indice on the 12 o'clock bezel.

Does this exist or am I seeing it wrong ?

I've moved your thread from the 7Axx General Discussion area (where you created it) to the 7A28-xxx forum section. ;)
There's a partial answer there for you in the thread at the bottom of this section. The stainless Seiko chronograph with a white dial, worn by the late Roger Moore in the opening sequence of 'A View to a Kill' is the 7A28-7020 SPR007J.

There's also this thread: Would you buy a watch worn by 007 Roger 'eyebrows' Moore ? in the old archived forum.
You may also find this one fairly enlightening: The (NOT) James Bond 007 eBay 7Axx Keyword Spamming thread.

You'll learn that a lot of eBay sellers incorrectly use the term 'James Bond' (as keyword spamming) on many different Seiko 7Axx's, which can lead to confusion. There is only one true 'Bond 7Axx' - the stainless 7A28-7020 SPR007J. 8-)

For many years, it's been generally accepted that the watch worn by Roger Moore in the opening scene of the 1985 Bond movie 'A view to a kill' is a Seiko 7A28-7020 (sales product code SPR007J). Not only did Seiko allocate that '007' product code, but there appears to have been marketing material to support it.

In an intriguing new development, yesterday evening Guy Jeffery (a.k.a. rexworthywatches) posted on Instagram, suggesting the watch worn by Roger Moore was in more likelihood, a stainless 7A38-7060 (SAA015J), rather than the accepted 7A28-7020. His claim is based on a couple of grainy zooms from the movie footage. (The face of the watch appears for less than 2 seconds, just after 6 minutes into the movie).

Personally, I'm inclined to agree with him that it's a possibility. Whereas it's difficult to discern the day / date windows, the colour of the sub-dials is a more important factor in my opinion. The 7A28-7020 (SPR007J) has a dial part number 702LX17. The 7A38-7060 (SAA015J) has a dial part number ending in the same suffix - 708LX17. Ergo both dials are the same silvery white colour. However in the 7A28, the sub-dials are the same colour as the main dial plate, whereas those of the 7A38 are more of a silvery pearlescent finish - which is how they appear on the watch in the film footage.

The revelation that Roger Moore was actually wearing a 7A38-7060, rather than the accepted 7A28-7020, in the opening scene of 'A View to a Kill' is gradually spreading and evidently being accepted. This was posted on Instagram 3 days ago.

Good morning,

Is this the James Bond watch?

https://ticctacc.com/products/kopie-von ... 1551583571

I believe it is, but wanted to confirm. Are there any red flags with this listing that I should ask the seller about?

Thank you,

Robert

Yes that is a 7A28-7020 SPR007J. Whether it is the watch that was actually worn by Roger Moore in the opening scene of 'A view to a kill', was bought into doubt earlier this year. Some think it may have been the similar-looking 7A38-7060 SAA015J. See the two posts preceding yours.

Why you persist in looking at these over-priced watches from German dealer Ticctacc is completely beyond me.
The seller is the red flag !!

There's currently one of those point of sale displays listed on eBay Germany (item # 364657822701). The deluded seller vintageuhrenladen is asking an absolutely ludicrous €898 Euros (no watch included - just the A4 cardboard display). :o

It's abundantly clear that Seiko intended the 7A28-7020 SAA007J to be used in that scene, but perhaps the movie's props department inadvertently supplied Roger Moore with the wrong watch. I guess we'll never know the answer for certain.
