Approved / recommended service / repairers of Seiko 7Axx's

Post by Seiko7A38 »

Need someone to fix your Seiko 7Axx ? I'm sure the question will be asked as soon as the forum opens to new members. Whereas in years gone by, I've repaired a few 7A38's for forum members, nowadays, with the size of my own collection, it's as much as I can do to keep pace with battery replacements. So if I have a watch in need of a movement service, I'll farm it out to someone with more skill and patience than myself (of more anon).

I've started to prepare a list of competent independent repairers. I've only covered the UK so far. If you're in Europe, or the States and can recommend someone else, please reply to this thread and I'll add it by editing the relevant post.

UK

Lee Cole - Moorland Watch Services
Website: https://moorlandwatchservices.com/
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leecolemoorlandwatchservices/
No personal experience of Lee's work (he is FBHI qualified), but he's popular with the FaceBook and Instagram crowd.

Guy Jeffery (Rexworthy Watches). Highly competent repairer of both Seiko mechanical and 7Axx quartz chronographs.
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rexworthywatches/

David McKane (Benchdweller.UK). New to me, recommended by Guy, who says Dave has also worked on many 7Axx's.
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/benchdweller.uk/

Phil Neville - a.k.a. 'Pippy' on various watch forums.
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pippy/
Phil protests he's only a hobbyist, but is starting to take on more paid work, per his post on Instagram earlier today.

Duncan Hewitt (TheWatchBloke).
Website: https://thewatchbloke.co.uk/
Frequently recommended on TZ-UK forum where he's a regular contributor. From what I've observed of his invoices (included in eBay listings for 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1's), rather more expensive than other UK independent repairers. Often has long waiting lists and consequently sometimes turns work away.

Simon Wilkinson a.k.a. 'Sir Alan' on various watch forums.
Currently Simon has no Instagram feed nor website and relies purely on word of mouth for recommendation.
He was a regular contributor on the old forum and his various 'Inside the 7Axx' threads are still worth reading.
Simon is my own personal choice for servicing 7Axx movements. He's done over a dozen of mine in the last year.

Steve Burrage (Ryte Time Watch Repairs)
Website: http://rytetimewatchrepairs.com/
Previously: http://www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk/
Steve is an 'old school' fully qualified watchmaker and had done some work for me in the past, but retired in 2020.
He'd formed a partnership with Terry Casey of TCA in 2019 (hence the new website) then started referring all work.
This is Terry's own website: https://www.luxurywatchrepairers.co.uk/ Other than that, I have no knowledge of him.

Seiko UK (in Maidenhead)
Evidently they still accept 7A28-7120 RAF Gen. 1's for servicing, but sometimes cite parts shortages as the reason for declining others. They have been known to service the odd Seiko 7A38 under 'warranty', but that was 10 years ago.

Europe and Scandinavia

George Clarkson (based in Berlin, Germany) - a.k.a. OVW or Only Vintage Watches.
Website: https://onlyvintagewatches.com/
George was a contributing member of the old forum. He's uploaded a number of videos to his YouTube channel.
If you have a Seiko 7Txx in need of repair, George is your man. He's one of the few who likes working on them !

USA, Canada, Mexico and South Americas

Spencer Klein (based in Fort Collins, Colorado) - a.k.a. Klein Vintage Watch
Website: https://kleinvintagewatch.com/
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kleinvintagewatch/
Calls himself a watchsmith. Let's just say that Spencer divides opinion. :P My observation is that he appears to waste far too much time promoting his services on his YouTube channel, when he could have been working on his customers' watches, causing a number of past complaints. Some of his 100's of uploaded videos are frankly nauseating to watch.

COSERVE Seiko U.S.A. Service Center in Mahwah, New Jersey.
Website: https://www.seikoserviceusa.com/
Have received lots of negative reviews over the years, even though they're the official Seiko US repair agent.

Australasia and the Far East.

Adrian Sellick (based in Adelaide, Australia) - a.k.a. (V T A) and Vintage Time Australia.
Website: https://vintagetimeaustralia.com/
Highly recommended on WristSushi forum, where he's a regular contributor and moderator.
Also produces 3D-printed movement holders and sells aftermarket gaskets on eBay as hal0eight.

Short update (and correction) to my earlier post. At the time I wrote that and when I last looked at it back in February, Simon did have an Instagram account siralan123 but still hadn't posted anything. Looks like he's changed his username to siralanseiko and yesterday made his first post.

I need to add a couple of quick updates to my original post from a year ago.

Lee Cole - Moorland Watch Services

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leecolemoorlandwatchservices/

Lee Cole's website has moved to: https://moorland-watch-services.ueniweb.com/
Unfortunately there's an announcement on the about me / home page, which reads:
Due to overwhelming demand I'm unable to take on anymore work.
I've got several trade customers and they have to take priority.
This website is due to be cancelled. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Many thanks, Lee Cole FBHI
His Instagram account has also disappeared.

Where to go for repair?

Post by kevinbis »

After waiting for delivery of the correct battery for my 7A38 that I have not used for long time, I installed it only to find the Chronograph side is working OK but the time side is not working.
Is there a recommended person or place to send it or take it for repair in Essex?
Or should I try the Seiko repair in Maidstone?
I have seen comments that the Maidstone Seiko repair do not support older watches now?

I have decided to let “Ryte Time” have a look at it.
It should be with Terry Casey on Monday.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for your help.
This is one I went for.

Kevin. Thanks for the update. I'm going to move these couple of posts presently and tack them onto the existing thread.
