Profiteering US eBay re-seller Flobaca strikes again !

Post by Seiko7A38 »

Edit: When I started this new thread, I naïvely gave the topic the title: eBay Bargain Buy of the Month possibly ?

This stainless 7A38-7020 in average well-worn condition was listed yesterday evening by a US eBay seller, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $0.99. Note the complete absence of 'Royal Oak' in the title and description.

Having seen so many similar instances over the past few years, some of which are documented in this thread on the old forum, I really should have known what to expect. In the early hours of this morning, greedy profiteering US eBay seller flobaca, whose favourite stock in trade are the stainless 7A38-7020 and 7A38-7029 - and has at times monopolized US eBay sales, listed this all too familiar looking example, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $600 !! :x

Needless to say, the serial number of the badly scratched case-back 712863 matches. He appears to have done very little to it, other than adding ONE bracelet adjustment link, which according to his description: Band - original signed Seiko stainless steel fits about 7,5inch wrist, whereas according to the previous seller: Band is apx. 6.5" no extra links.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained and all that. :D At the weekend, I'd sent a politely worded message to US eBay seller fastcashgoldcenters, innocently enquiring what he might have sold that stainless 7A38-7020 for. I just got a reply back:

$250 sounds about 'par for the course' for the greedy profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca. :x
Just to refresh your memories, here's a few pertinent posts from that thread on the old forum:

Since I wrote that, nearly 3 years ago, in an effort to cover his tracks, he's made the feedback for zenodass44 private. You may have noticed from some of his listing descriptions that flobaca's command of English leaves something to be desired. Romanian forum member Licu (Adrian) had no reservations about dishing the dirt on his exiled compatriot.

It may have taken him a couple of weeks, but in the early hours of this morning, profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca finally snared himself a mug punter buyer for that stainless 7A38-7020. He ended his latest 7-day auction re-listing (which had only been created an hour and a half earlier) a matter of minutes after someone placed an opening bid.

Half the battle in keeping tabs on these profiteering eBay re-sellers is spotting where they'd previously purchased their stock in trade. As you've seen from the previous example, flobaca regularly obtains his by conducting 'back door' deals, making it more difficult. Other times he'll give himself away. Here's my prediction for his next warmed-over 7A38-7029, although it may take him a while to sort it out.

This well-worn, non-running 7A38-7029, fitted with a non-original bracelet was listed by a US eBay seller last weekend, for 'Parts or Repair', as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $0.99.

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned previously (if not here, in the old forum's thread) that profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca isn't averse to dabbling in two-tone 7A38-702x's. Here's such an example - a 7A38-702A, in average worn condition that he listed in the early hours of this morning, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $250.

I won't bother copying and pasting his standard template description. Here's where he bought it last Tuesday, from an inexperienced US eBay seller (his favoured prey), in another instance of his preferred modus operandi. It appears to originally have been a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of $40, possibly with a Buy-it-Now option.

The original seller's description is fairly self-explanatory. Needless to say, the case-back serial number 521829 matches.
The seller made a number of revisions to the listing, the last change to a Buy-it-Now very likely at flobaca's instigation.

Profiteering US eBay seller flobaca still hasn't found a mug punter buyer for that 7A38-702A yet. He re-listed it for a third time, as another 7-day auction in the early hours of this morning.

He also listed this well-worn 7A38-7029, fitted with an incorrect two-tone p/n B1171C bracelet, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $400, which I'd almost correctly predicted in this post a fortnight ago, but fitted with a different bracelet to that as purchased.

He's used his regular standard template description and customary deception:

7A38-7029-Stainless+Grey-WrongBracelet-eBay-April2021-(Re-seller)-Description.png (24.94 KiB) Viewed 12848 times

So Yes, it's the same well-worn 7A38-7029, case-back serial # 3N6375, which he paid $215.50 for, in winning that eBay auction on 10th April, but with a slight twist, which threw me a curved ball initially. You see, I'd remembered that last month, there'd been a well-worn stainless 7A38-7020, also fitted with the same incorrect two-tone B1171C bracelet on eBay. I had to check back through my watching page. Turns out it was in Switzerland.

So absolutely no connection to flobaca whatsoever, unless it provided him the inspiration to swap the previous ill-fitting replacement bracelet, for another wrong one. Presumably he had it in his spare parts stash.

Profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca may not have managed to find gullible buyers for his current 7A38-702x offerings yet (it's just a matter of time and probably a few more re-listings, before the next mug punter comes along), but that doesn't stop him acquiring more stock in trade, to keep the gravy train rolling.

Knowing that he usually targets the low end of the condition spectrum when buying, I'd already ear-marked and duly annotated this well-worn non-running 7A38-7029, which was listed on Monday evening by a US eBay seller, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $25.

I've only bothered to upload 4 of the seller's 11 photos. Note the slightly discoloured lume on the hour hand, clumsily displaced centre seconds finger tension spring in the movement shot and the case-back serial number 444071, which will no doubt resurface on eBay in due course. As it turned out, I didn't have to wait a week to see what it sold for.

You only get one guess as to the identity of the canny buyer, who persuaded the seller to end the auction early:

Checking the eBay Bidding History reveals an encrypted ID with private feedback, which of course is zenodass44 - profiteering re-seller flobaca's alternative user ID that he uses for buying.

Profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca re-listed that well-worn 7A38-7029, which he'd fitted with an incorrect two-tone p/n B1171C bracelet a couple of times without success. The latest 7-day auction re-listing ended in the early hours of this morning, without a bid placed, still unsold.

I was expecting him to re-list it again overnight, but in a slight twist, he hasn't done so (yet). Instead he listed another well-worn 7A38-7029, similarly as another 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $400. This one has very familiar looking slightly discoloured lume on the hour hand (and dial batons).

This is of course, just as I predicted in my previous post, 7A38-7029 serial # 444071 which he 'back-doored' a week ago. Note in his penultimate photo, the bracelet adjustment link nearest the clasp is missing its retainer. Shoddy work. :(

Profiteering US eBay seller flobaca must have been keen to get his hands on the cash. He ended the listing early, this afternoon after receiving just one bid for $400. I can't believe anybody in their right mind would have paid more for it.

No great surprise, once he'd got the other out of the way, profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca re-listed his previous well-worn 7A38-7029, that he'd fitted with the wrong two-tone B1171C bracelet, in the early hours of this morning as another 7-day auction listing. He's deigned to reduce the open bid price from $400 to $380.

Seiko7A38 wrote: Sun Apr 11, 2021 8:27 amHalf the battle in keeping tabs on these profiteering eBay re-sellers is spotting where they'd previously purchased their stock in trade. As you've seen from the previous example, flobaca regularly obtains his by conducting 'back door' deals, making it more difficult. Other times he'll give himself away.
When times are hard, profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca sometimes deviates from his preferred prey of 7A38-702x's and scavenges other less desirable common-or-garden Seiko 7A38 models. He's re-sold a few 7A38-7069's over the years.

Two-tone 7A38-7270's crop up on eBay in the States fairly regularly. Going back a few years, they were very much the province of another erstwhile profiteering US eBay re-seller worldwideweb66 (cited in this old forum's thread), who similarly used another eBay ID kyiaye (which coincidentally also has private feedback) to purchase his stock in trade.

Indeed, I'll admit when I saw this, he was my first thought. That said, when Wai Phyo was regularly dealing in 7A38's (he's not dabbled in many years), the watches he purchased for resale were generally of a decent standard. The fact that this one certainly isn't and the lowballing M.O. point to profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca being the culprit. Gentlemen, I give you my prediction for one of his next forthcoming botched-up over-priced 7A38 offerings ....

This well-worn two-tone 7A38-7270, with a smashed crystal, that had lain unworn and neglected since 2005, was listed yesterday evening by a US eBay seller, for parts or possible repair, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $15.

More or less exactly as I predicted in my previous post 10 days ago, that well-worn two-tone 7A38-7270 re-appeared on eBay yesterday evening, listed by everybody's least favourite profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $100. Looking at his photos, he may have come unstuck with this one. Shame (not). The previous seller's photos of the watch (with a smashed crystal) seem to have mostly obscured the moisture damaged dial.

To his credit his photos clearly show the extent of the micro-blistering. He even describes its condition(s) as 'ROUGH'. However he couldn't resist lying about the crystal (to cover his tracks). Looks like he's deliberately fitted a scratched used replacement crystal, to be more in keeping with with the rest of the watch. He also hasn't bothered to clean the years of accumulated filth from the bracelet, which is frankly disgusting.

Speaking of predictions for flobaca's future offerings, I have a suspicion that he may have another or possibly two more 7A38-702H's in the pipeline already. If I'm correct, one of them is particularly rough. However I can confidently state that this non-running example, which appeared briefly on eBay in the States a week or so ago, won't be one of them.

WatchCount.com's look-up tool reveals the listing was live for just over 50 minutes and received 25 views.

One would have thought that would have been ideal flobaca fodder. But it sold to another buyer. So he either didn't see it in time, or I suspect more likely, didn't want to pay $100 for it and passed. Not enough profit margin for him.

Rather than speculate, I'll hold off posting links to those two US eBay auctions, both of which were ended last week as no longer available. Obviously in the circumstances, without the benefit of eBay purchase history, one can't be fully 100% certain it was actually him who 'back-doored' them, until he lists the watch himself. :|

Admittedly I hadn't predicted this one ! Profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca temporarily caught me off guard, listing this half decent looking gold-tone 7A38-7280 in the early hours of this morning, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $175. Makes me wonder if the problem was something as simple as a displaced centre seconds finger tension spring. :|

It was originally a 7-day auction listing, with an opening bid price of $29. Checking the item revision history it appears the seller was persuaded to add a Buy-it-Now option about 90 minutes later. I wonder who might have prompted that ?

Hmm. I didn't see this one coming. In the early hours of this morning, profiteering US eBay re-seller flobaca listed this two-tone 7A38-7289, in average worn condition, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $175.

At the moment, I'm struggling to find where he bought that one. There were a few two-tone 7A38-7289's listed and sold on eBay in the States last month. At first I thought it might have been this one, which is within his favoured price range (when it comes to buying) ....

.... but that auction was won by another eBay ID, rather than his alter ego (with private feedback). :|
