Greedy profiteering Dutch eBay re-seller Red Robin Watches

Post by Seiko7A38 »

As I wrote recently in another thread in this forum section ....
Seiko7A38 wrote: Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:24 am Sometimes I try to ignore the many instances of blatant profiteering that I witness on eBay on an almost daily basis. But then I think about the gullible newbies that may fall prey to these greedy re-sellers, for lack of due diligence.Thing is, lately it's not just stainless 7A38-702x 'Royal Oak's and 7A38-6000 'Panda Divers' that are being re-listed at ridiculous prices. Seems now that any 7A38 variant is fair game to the profiteers - even less desirable two-tone models ....
This latest instance of blatant wilful profiteering concerns a poor example of a less desirable variant to boot !!

For a change, it's not a UK or German eBay re-seller, but a Dutch outfit Red Robin Watches that I've caught red handed.
I think they may have misspelled 'robin'. Perhaps it should read 'robbin' - as in robbing b*st*rds.

Late yesterday afternoon, they listed a two-tone 7A38-727A, as a 7-day auction with an almost laughable opening bid price of €315 Euros.

The watch is missing the gold plating from the bezel rim and most of the bracelet, where it appears to have been crudely sanded off. That and the fact that two-tone 7A38-727A's usually turn up on eBay Germany made it easy for me to remember where I'd seen it before, fairly recently. It sold less than a week ago, in a 3-day German eBay auction by seller zeigerwelt for €91 Euros, after 26 bids.

Checking the Bidding History, the encrypted winning bidder ID has a feedback of 135, the same as redrobinwatches.

Not that it needed any more proof, but if you check the photos in zeigerwelt's listing you can just about discern the case-back serial number 7N8227, which matches.

But this isn't the first instance of blatant profiteering on two-tone 7A38's that I've seen by redrobinwatches ....

I should have exposed them a month ago when I spotted their first listing for a two-tone 7A38-6080. These two current (re-)listings both have a couple of days to run. First there's a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of €365 Euros.

In parallel, there's also a Buy-it-Now for an even more risible €415 Euros !

Again, you'd more usually expect to find a two-tone 7A38-6080 on eBay Germany and indeed that's where this one came from. It was a Buy-it-Now for €139 Euros on Sunday 8th October.

According to WatchCount.com's Look-up tool, the listing was live for 2 hours 15 minutes, before they snatched it up.

Needless to say, the case-back serial number 768235, in both listings, matches.

Their preferred mark-up appears to be three times what they paid, so with the resultant risible prices, I suspect these two 7A38's may be re-listed a good many times into the New Year.
