Watch and Jewelry Exchange), Ryan Marucheau from scouring Yahoo Japan in search of more potential easy profit. Last night he listed this 7A38-6050, in average worn condition, as a 7-day auction with a typical extortionately marked-up opening bid price of almost $1000 (bar 5 cents).

Here's where he bought the watch (then fitted with a different rubber strap) off Yahoo Japan at the end of November, winning the 5-day auction for ¥50,100 Yen - equivalent to approx. $360 USD at the prevailing exchange rate (versus the ludicrous $1495 shown on his fraudulent C.O.A.)

It may have taken him nearly a year and ten months, but it looks like profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm-127, a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau has eventually found a mug punter buyer for his ex-Yahoo Japan 7A38-6050. It sold at the weekend for his grossly inflated Buy-it-Now price of $999.95.

Evidently profiteering US eBay re-seller Ryan Marucheau (a.k.a. rtm127) is monitoring this thread. He recently sent me this message bragging about his profitability:

eBay-Message-rtm127.png

His second paragraph (if true) demonstrates that there are still gullible mug punters out there, with more money than sense, who fail to research prospective purchases. Incidentally, another 7A38-6050 in much better cosmetic condition (albeit a 'head only') sold on Yahoo Japan in mid-September for only ¥38,500 Yen (equivalent to approx. $273.50 USD).

In the early hours of this morning, greedy profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127 (a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau) listed another thousand dollar JDM 7A38, which naturally came from his usual source, Yahoo Japan. This time it's another 7A38-6040.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256725652340

He won the auction in late September for 56,000 Yen, equivalent to approx. $390 USD at the prevailing exchange rate.
Probably more than he would have liked to spend, I'd wager, so no boastful 300% profit margin for him on this one.

I note with mild amusement that he's now given up obscuring the case-back serial numbers of his 7A38 eBay listings. Needless to say, this one wasn't difficult to match either.

One thing I'd query in his description is the statement: the watch will currently fit a size 7 inch wrist. He doesn't appear to have added any adjustment links to the typically short bracelet and the YJ seller's photo showed it measured 16 cms, which is closer to 6¼ inches. Stretching the truth, perhaps ?

Greedy profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127 (a.k.a. Watch and Jewelry Exchange), Ryan Marucheau continues to scour Yahoo Japan for JDM 7Axx's to sell on at inflated mark-ups. It had been fairly quiet on the 7A38 front on YJ in the fourth quarter of last year, so when he listed not one but two 7A38-6030's within a minute of each other, in the early hours of this morning, he had me scratching my head. Turns out that the first one was a bit of a red herring - of more anon.

The second is an average worn condition example, listed as a 7-day auction with a greedily marked-up opening bid price of $849.95. Usually such listings end without any bids placed and he then re-lists it as a Buy-it-Now at the same price.

That one was fairly easy to track down, because it was the last 7A38-6030 to be listed on Yahoo Japan at the end of last October. It was a 6-day listing by a 'store' seller, with a low start opening bid price of only ¥1 Yen. Frankly, it looked rather grubby and was described as being in poor condition. It was bid to a comparatively low ¥23,200 Yen after only 9 bids. Unusually, there was no automatic extension. Adding the 10% Japanese Sales Tax takes that to ¥25,520 Yen, which is equivalent to a mere $167.60 at the then prevailing exchange rate - compared to the current asking price of $850 !

As I wrote, his first listing for a 7A38-6030 in the early hours of this morning had me scratching my head - momentarily.
Once again, it's a 7-day auction listing, this time with a slightly lower (by his standards) opening bid price of $739.95:

You'll notice the photos of the two watches look very similar, which added to my albeit temporary confusion. Turns out that he'd already listed this particular 7A38-6030 in early July last year (see previous page), initially as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of $799.95. When it didn't sell he re-listed it as a Buy-it-Now as usual. This was the first listing where he obfuscated the case-back serial number, in his vain efforts to thwart me.

As I wrote at the time ....
Seiko7A38 wrote: Mon Jul 08, 2024 9:57 amAs you can see from my screen print, it sold for ¥39,499 after 12 bids. At the then prevailing exchange rate that equates to approx. $251.60 USD - somewhat less than Ryan's current $800 asking price, but typical of his greedy profit margins. Oh and FWIW, the 'missing' case-back serial number is 511470. :P
Not sure why he re-listed it, other than to reduce the price slightly, but his previous 6 month old Buy-it-Now listing has since disappeared without a trace. Perhaps he deliberately deleted it. :|

PS - Incidentally, rtm127 now has three 7A38-6030's listed on eBay - all ex-Yahoo Japan and all greedily over-priced.

7A38-725A's aren't rare by any stretch of the imagination. They're relatively common Stateside. But it's been a while since I'd seen one listed on eBay. Funnily enough, the last one I remembered seeing was listed on Yahoo Japan in July.
It was a 7-day auction, which ended with it selling for 11,100 Yen, equivalent to just $76 at today's exchange rate.

In the early hours of this morning, greedy profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127 (a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau of 'Watch and Jewelry Exchange') listed another ridiculously over-priced JDM 7A38, which naturally came from his usual source, Yahoo Japan auctions. This time it's an average condition titanium 7A38-7030, which he ranks as being 7.5 overall (Excellent to Very Good by his standards). He's asking a typically greedily marked-up $1499.95.

There have been a few titanium 7A38-7030 SJS018's listed on Yahoo Japan this year (more than any other JDM variant), but even without a serial number (Ryan has stopped bothering to obscure them) it wouldn't be difficult to identify this particular example by the small ding in the L.H. side of the watch case. Note also the badly faded CHRONOGRAPH dial script (which would originally have been red).

It was a 3-day auction in the third week of February, with an opening bid price of ¥1000 Yen. It sold for ¥60,600 Yen after 20 bids. That's equivalent to $405.92 at the prevailing exchange rate, rather less than he's currently asking.

Apart from the obvious deterrent of his price, one thing I'd be wary of is Ryan's claim that it will fit a 7" wrist. He may be stretching the truth a little (pun intended). Like so many watches sourced from Japan, this one is typically short of bracelet adjustment links. If you look at the YJ listing you will see there were a further half dozen or so photos embedded in the description. This was the last image in the string.

The Japanese seller's other photos show 1¼ links were hidden under the clasp, which Ryan has since adjusted to the bracelet's fullest possible length.

As I expected, greedy profiteering US eBay seller rtm127's 7-day auction listing for his ex-Yahoo Japan 7A38-7030 went unsold. As per his usual practice, he's since re-listed it as a Buy-it-Now. Unfortunately for any potential UK buyers, it looks like eBay has automatically added 20% VAT to his already unpalatable price, taking it to a ridiculous $1800 !

In the early hours of this morning, greedy profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127, a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau of Watch and Jewelry Exchange listed (what first appeared to be) another 7A38-6040 with a typical greedily marked-up price of $899.95. Like all his other JDM Seikos, I suspected this one also came from Yahoo Japan at half the price or less.

However, due to the cunning manner in which he took the photo of the case-back, using the clasp's Z-fold to obscure the serial number, apart from a barely visible '6', I was initially unable to verify my suspicions, for this example.

rsz_7a38-6040-divers-stainless-blackface-ebay-april2025-re-seller-9.jpg
rsz_7a38-6040-divers-stainless-blackface-ebay-april2025-re-seller-9.jpg (224.83 KiB) Viewed 83580 times

His description states: Circa: October of 1984, which would mean the watch would have a 4Oxxxx serial number. Thing is, I've only seen one 7A38-6040 listed on Yahoo Japan this year (in February) and that had a 4Dxxxx (December 1984) serial number. Perhaps this was one of his earlier unsold listings for a 7A38-6040 that he's surreptitiously re-listed. :|
Checking my eBay watching page (and searching on 7A38-6040) reveals: Item ID 355780285000 is no longer available.
Which very likely means he deliberately deleted it. But fortunately the listing summary information is still cached. ;)

Again, although there have been a few 7A38-6030's listed and sold on Yahoo Japan recently, it's not difficult to figure out which one this is. It was listed in the last week of June as a 5-day auction, with an opening bid price of ¥1000 Yen.

https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/p1141998556

As you can see from my screen print of the ended listing, this one sold for a mere ¥32,100 Yen after only 5 bids, equivalent to $199.55 US at the prevailing exchange rate. How he has the gall to ask $920 for it is beyond me. :x
Note this 'missing' serial number is 492885. ;)

Profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127 (a.k.a. Watch and Jewelry Exchange, Ryan Marucheau) strategy of sourcing his Seiko 7A38's from Buyee / Yahoo Japan (whether they are JDM models or not), sometimes leaves me scratching my head in bewilderment and occasionally, as in this particular instance, gives me a good laugh at his expense.

Last night, he listed this well worn 7A38-7070, with a battered bezel insert and manky hands and dial lume, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of 99 cents. Bidding is currently @ $41. He describes it as being in need of a service. One might question whether it was actually worth the cost of a service. :|

Being a particularly memorable (for looking tatty) example of the marque, I remembered seeing this watch a couple of times before. It was previously listed on Yahoo Japan at the end of May, as a 7-day auction with an opening bid price of ¥15,000 Yen, with the option to Buy-it-Now for a highly optimistic ¥25,000 yen. There were only three bids placed in the closing minutes. It sold for ¥17,750 yen, equivalent to approx. $124.25 USD at the prevailing exchange rate.

I immediately recognised the Japanese seller from his style of photos. It's swotlab - a long term cross-platform re-seller.
He had bought it from eBay seller Filipino watch-botcher badingski in April, when it sold for just $49.55 after 12 bids.

US eBay re-seller rtm127's 7-day auction for his partially working ex-Filipino, ex-Yahoo Japan 7A38-7070 ended last night, selling for $152.50 after 22 bids.

Profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127 (a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau of Watch and Jewelry Exchange) continues to raid Yahoo Japan auctions for his stock in trade of Seiko 7Axx's. Though sometimes one might question the wisdom of his purchases. Overnight, he listed this cosmetically decent, but non-working two-tone 7A38-6090 as a 7-day auction, with an opening bid price of 99 cents.

There have been a couple of two-tone 7A38-6090's listed on Yahoo Japan recently, but this one wasn't difficult to trace. It was a 5-day low-start (1 Yen) auction in the first week of June, by a store seller who described it as non-working and 'junk'. Note the day/date set on SUN 1, which Ryan hasn't even bothered to change for his photos.

It sold for ¥13,500 yen after 20 bids. Unusually no bids were placed in the closing 15 minutes of the auction. Adding the 10% Japanese Sales Tax took the price to ¥14,850 Yen, equivalent to $102.62 USD at the prevailing exchange rate.

In the early hours of this morning, profiteering US eBay re-seller rtm127, a.k.a. Ryan Marucheau of Watch and Jewelry Exchange, listed yet another ex-Yahoo Japan JDM 7A38 with a typical greedily marked-up asking price of $1000 bucks. This time it's a titanium 7A38-7030 fitted with a non-original replacement Seiko bracelet.

The incorrect bracelet is interesting. In his description, Ryan wrote of it:
Lug/ band size: Watch has an original Seiko titanium bracelet band installed that tapers from 22mm to 16mm near the buckle, sized for a an 8.5 inch wrist, I am not sure if it is original to the watch or not, but I know that it is original Seiko
It certainly isn't the correct original p/n YA22A bracelet. Nor is it the p/n YB21A bracelet normally found on the titanium 7T42-7A10, which is often used as a substitute on 7A38-7030's. It bears a strong resemblance to the p/n YA30A bracelet normally found on the (stainless) 7A48-7050 Fishing Master. But it can't be, because Ryan says it's titanium. :|

There have been a few 7A38-7030's listed on Yahoo Japan recently. This one was relatively easy to track down - not by its serial number, 3D5871, only just legible in Ryan's rather dark photo, but by dint of that unusual non-original bracelet.
It was listed on Yahoo Japan at the beginning of July as a 6-day auction, with a low start opening bid price of ¥1 Yen.

It was bid to ¥39,080 Yen after 22 bids. Adding the 10% Japanese Sales Tax brings the total to ¥42,988 Yen, which is equivalent to $297.50 at the prevailing exchange rate - less than a third of this greedy re-seller's asking price.

Incidentally, his previous 7A38-7030, which is fitted with the correct original p/n YA22A bracelet, that he first listed in April (see posts higher up this page), with an even greedier asking price of $1500, remains unsold, to no great surprise.

There have been a few 7A38-7110's listed on Yahoo Japan recently, though this one wasn't difficult to track down. It was the first of three 7A38-7110's listed in July. This one was a 4-day auction, by a store seller, with an opening bid price of 1000 Yen. It ended on schedule, without any extension, with bidding at 46,009 Yen after 30 bids. Adding 10% Japanese sales tax brings the total to 50,609 yen, equivalent to approx. $340 US at the prevailing exchange rate.
