.... goes to a relative newcomer to the world of Seiko 7Axx's, would-be profiteering US eBay re-seller Meltzer Trading*.

Before I resume my justifiably scathing criticism of their borderline fraudulent pseudo-discounted / price-hiking antics, now would seem an appropriate opportunity to publish a brief exposé on the persona behind profiteering eBay re-seller millauctionhouse and deservedly 'name and shame'. He is Marc Meltzer, a twenty-something self-styled entrepreneur, currently a resident of Glendale, Phoenix, AZ. Although he’s since changed his eBay ID from meltzertrading, a clue to his identity still remains in the description of every one of his eBay listings: MeltzerUS, which with very little effort, Google led me to discover this:

Prior to starting trading on eBay in September 2014, he'd previously been active on other more obscure sales platforms, notably the paradoxically named Poshmark, where he'd been flogging the same kind of cheap tat estate costume junk jewellery as far back as 2007, before coming out of the proverbial closet.

He's also previously been a seller on Etsy, where his profile included a concise biography and shows a change of location (from Poshmark's Uniondale, NY) to Tempe, AZ.

The question anybody following this thread has to ask themselves, is would you buy any secondhand Seiko 7Axx from a decidedly shady looking character like this ? - let alone at his ludicrously marked-up psuedo-discounted asking prices.

Speaking of 'calling a spade a spade', I had a good laugh to myself earlier this morning. I'd been waiting impatiently for him to list more of the Seiko 7Axx's that he's acquired recently, so I can pass comment. Nothing has been forthcoming since those last two 7A48's on Christmas Eve (of more anon). Slightly off topic admittedly, but this morning, he did list another quartz chronograph, of sorts. It's a typical ladies large dress watch, similar to Michael Kors designs, but from another cheaper fashion brand: Kate Spade. His current (yet to be 'discounted') asking price is $200. Quite incredibly, for someone attempting to re-sell watches for profit, he seems incapable of replacing its battery.

I did briefly start to search eBay history, to see if I could find where he bought it and how much he'd paid for it, but there've been so many Kate Spade watches on eBay, I gave up looking after the first page. But I did spot this earlier listing, where he'd previously unsuccessfully sold the same watch on Boxing Day, for a best offer (of less than $79):

Ennui can be a terrible thing, especially at this time of year, in the lull between Christmas and New Year. I don't need any reminding of what I wrote on the previous page, only a few days ago. 'The devil makes work for idle hands'.

.... I hadn't bothered with the 7A48-7000's and 7A48-7009's and I'm not about to start doing a retrospective 'drains up' now. That said, I'd started making a list of their case-back serial numbers ....

Yesterday, I plugged those case-back serial numbers into an Excel spreadsheet, along with other data I'd already gleaned of MM's purchases and grossly marked-up eBay listings and started filling in the gaps. It took me a little over an hour:

I filled in the missing information by searching eBay history, matching case-back serial numbers in the previous eBay seller's listing photos. MM didn't inadvertently provide any assistance whatsoever in compiling it and I suspect that's deliberate inaction on his part, so as to cover his tracks - that or plain ignorance / sheer laziness. He very rarely ever leaves positive feedback for the sellers he buys from. At best he might deign to leave an occasional great or Great!

Nothing has been forthcoming since those last two 7A48's on Christmas Eve (of more anon).

The fact that I was unable to uncover any details for those two both annoyed and perplexed me. However, I suspect there's a logical explanation. MM clearly has an affinity for the 7A48-7000 / -7009 and it's likely that he's purchased at least a couple for himself. I've demonstrated in previous posts (supported by the dates shown in my spreadsheet) that he doesn't always necessarily list his items in the order of acquisition. It's conceivable that he bought these two earlier in October, with the original intention of keeping them, but subsequently decided to sell them, possibly after acquiring better examples. If my assumption is correct, they would already have been automatically deleted from eBay history, before I started this investigation.

Having retrospectively researched his buying activity, one thing quickly becomes abundantly clear. In his pathetic frantic efforts to 'corner the market', his rookie inexperience has resulted in some indiscriminate and questionable purchases.

Although a decent enough example (albeit with a short-ish bracelet), did he seriously pay $650 for the 7A48-7009 that he purchased from lacienegajewelry1540 on 21st October (Item # 224585903279) ? That's well above market value.

Another prime example of his rookie inexperience was the purchase on 20th October of that well-worn JDM 7A48-7000, fitted with a non-original generic replacement bracelet (Item # 255023608554). He purchased it on eBay from one of the many Japanese cross-platform re-sellers, menswatchesinjapanonline, paying well over the odds for it. Common sense dictates that if you're looking to buy the JDM version of a watch, you cut out the 'middle man' and go direct to source - Yahoo Japan, where as this closed search result shows, they can be picked up in better condition and rather cheaper, often for between as little as ¥5000 - ¥15000 Yen.

One thing I completely fail to understand is why he buys watches that are non-runners or with disclosed faults. There are at least 4 among those listed on my spreadsheet. From a good many of his listings, he not only seems incapable of replacing a battery (or too lazy), but by his own admission (see quotes at the bottom of the previous page) still hasn't figured out how to reset chronograph hands to zero. Perhaps the worst of these is the non-running 7A48-7009 head only (Item # 183769235095) which he bought from US eBay seller oldtreasurebox on 21st October for an undisclosed best offer (presumably less than $121.49). Not only did the seller list it as: "Not working. For parts", but he first did so back in April 2019 !! Nobody else had been foolhardy enough, until MM came along.

Incredibly, MM doesn't appear to be learning from his earlier mistakes. He bought another non-running 7A48-7000 fitted with a non-original replacement bracelet, in the early hours of this morning, winning the US 7-day auction for $199.99.

My next post is not intended as any kind of apology to MM, but with hindsight, it appears I earlier inadvertently did him a dis-service when I previously mocked him for having comprehensively failed to sell any of his ludicrously over-priced Seiko 7Axx's to date. Seems I missed one.

When I compiled my 7A48 Excel spreadsheet, for the purposes of that exercise, I deliberately ignored the fact that MM was also listing a 7A48-7010. That omission is primarily the cause of my oversight. I'd seen it a couple of weeks ago, when it came up in a search on meltzertrading/ 7A48. As of yesterday, its risible Buy-it-Now price had been supposedly reduced to $840 (from $2100, by dint of the 60% 'sale' discount).

I may even have looked up where he'd bought before, back on 25th October, from Canadian eBay re-seller jmvanauto for $189.99. He also bought a couple of rough-ish 7A38's from him. Funnily enough, I'd traded a couple of light-hearted messages with John and he confided that he was moving them on, simply because he couldn't be arsed to fix them up. This 7A48-7010 had stated chronograph faults.

So it would appear that this young chancer (sorry, entrepreneur) got lucky and found one gullible mug punter buyer for his ludicrously over-priced Seiko 7Axx's. Let's hope that'll be his first and only.

MM was a busy boy last night, working late into the evening, creating at least 70 listings. Except there was nothing new - at least not in terms of Seiko 7Axx's. What he did was to pull the same stunt used by many other devious eBay sellers and ended all his previous Seiko listings as allegedly no longer available and promptly re-listed them. Evidently he got himself in a right muddle during the process and re-listed a few of them 2 or 3 times before finally managing to get it right. I was awake very early this morning and watching him live.

Whether he did this in a vain attempt to throw me off his trail, or is trying to re-start with a clean slate, I cannot know.
Obviously this means that all the item specific links I've embedded earlier in this thread will become useless, but the generic searches on his Seiko listings that I'd posted on the previous page still return almost exactly the same results:

Fortunately all of the earlier links I've embedded still work at the time of writing, but just to recap ....

Their current tally of all Seiko watches listed for sale is 68, which includes:

7 x 7A28's, 8 x 7A38's, 13 x 7A48's and 10 x 7T34 Flightmasters (something else they're been surreptitiously buying up).

What is noticeably different about these re-listings is that they currently include some substantial reductions in his previously supposedly discounted prices. For example, the Buy-it-Now prices of his 7A48-7000's and -7009's now range from 'only' $400 to $600 (without any discount applied), compared to the previous $800 to $1600 (discounted by 60%). That said, there still aren't anything like any 'bargains' to be had among his re-listed offerings - far from it. Of course, given his proclivity for constantly revising his listings, this could only be temporary.

Taking eBay fees and commission into account, with some of the newly reduced prices he's set, MM may actually fail to break even on some of the prices he'd paid for them. One item that's certain to attract more attention is his 7A28-7039, now reduced to 'only' $800:

MM continued playing his childish 'hide and seek' games into New Year's Eve, ending (allegedly as no longer available) and immediately re-listing most (approx. 60 of 70 total) of his Seiko listings. Best I can tell, from a cursory inspection, there weren't any changes made to prices or details, apart from one re-listing for the tired p.o.s. two-tone 7A38-7020.

I can only assume that was intended as some kind of joke - if so it was on him. No idea where he plucked the price of $2069.69 from. One might have thought $2022.00 would have been slightly more appropriate. That re-listing lasted for around 4½ hours from 20:05 (UTC) yesterday evening until 02:43 (UTC) this morning, before being ended because of yet another unforced error.

It's since been replaced by yet another re-listing, item # 175089966230, where he's 'reduced' (I use that word advisedly) the still completely unrealistic Buy-it-Now price from $600 to $500. I can't be arsed to post another screen print, on the basis that this latest re-listing probably won't last long either.

For anybody needing a re-cap on the prior history of this extremely poor example of a two-tone 7A38-7020 (hence the 'tired p.o.s.' moniker), please go back and carefully read my post #2 on the previous page. The salient point being that MM foolishly paid £198 for it in November 2021. Before that it had been re-listed umpteen times by the UK eBay seller since April 2020. Nobody wanted it. Personally, I'd opine that if he ever manages to sell it, MM should consider himself extremely fortunate if he gets $200 for it. I'm not alone in thinking that. Since I took that screen print, he's gone on to revise the re-listing twice, by first doubling the Buy-it-Now price to $800, then applying his contrived 50% 'sale' discount, so the price is still effectively $400. (See my next post).

I hope I'm not giving readers the impression that I'm deliberately trying to antagonise MM. However, I will admit I find it mildly amusing how he's reacted to some of my posts. If nothing else, my criticism appears to have to have temporarily deterred him from listing any more of the 7Axx's he purchased in December. There have been other minor side-effects in our recent games of 'cat and mouse'.

Yesterday, I went through the thread, checking whether all the links I'd embedded still worked. Most still do, but not all of them return quite the same results as they did previously, for example the link to his Etsy page, that I'd included in my 'name and shame' exposé at the top of this page:

It looked vaguely familiar, although it had me scratching my head for a few minutes. Turns out it's a cropped version of the image he's currently using as the background of his eBay profile (though not much of it is actually visible there).

Castles in the air ? Delusions of grandeur ? Nah, more like shades of Swiss Toni. In fact, it's just an old picture postcard. You see apart from his primary stock in trade of cheap tat estate costume junk jewellery and ludicrously over-priced watches (some non-working), MM also deals in other ephemera, including vintage picture postcards. These presently account for 763 of the total 4000-plus items he's currently listing.

He's used similar vintage picture postcard images on earlier versions of his profile (as meltzertrading), such as this one:

Incidentally, speaking of eBay profile pictures, perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me, but now I vaguely recall that when I first looked at MM's meltzertrading eBay profile back in early November, there was a wrist shot of him wearing a 7A48-7000 / -7009, possibly sat behind a car steering wheel. Unfortunately I was more preoccupied with the 7A38's he'd just started listing and didn't realize the significance of it at the time, so didn't think to right-click and save it.

There have been other minor side-effects in our recent games of 'cat and mouse'.

Yesterday, I went through the thread, checking whether all the links I'd embedded still worked. Most still do, but not all of them return quite the same results as they did previously, for example the link to his Etsy page, that I'd included in my 'name and shame' exposé at the top of this page:

He's also previously been a seller on Etsy, where his profile included a concise biography and shows a change of location (from Poshmark's Uniondale, NY) to Tempe, AZ.

He's since redacted it, expurgating just about everything but his (user) name.

His profile photo is gone. Fortunately, I'd had the foresight to interrogate the HTML, right-click and saved it already.
I just hadn't bothered to post it. He's replaced it with this small grainy image of what appears to be a Swiss chateau.

It appears MM hadn't quite finished attempting to cover his tracks. He's since revised his Etsy profile again, changing the user ID to Mill Auction House. Some details are still currently private, but the fact that it now mirrors his eBay profile is a possible indication that he may plan to resurrect it at some point.

Strangely, his Poshmark profile that I posted in starting my exposé at the top of this page currently remains unchanged.
However, there's lots of other older stuff I'd found, that he may possibly want to redact, in his efforts to save face.

Speaking of which, readers may recall this mildly sarcastic observation I made in my post on the previous page:

Note the grubby fingerprints all over the case-back.

MM evidently still has much to learn about protecting his online identity from unwanted attention and investigation.

Those two images above come from a long since ended junk jewellery listing on Poshmark, dating back to July 2007.

Without resorting to using any of the various online fingerprint matching tools, I'd opine they're a pretty close match.

Meanwhile, on a more serious note ....

One item that's certain to attract more attention is his 7A28-7039, now reduced to 'only' $800:

Although it's still well over-priced for the condition, it's now remarkably cheaper than it was just over a week ago, when even at that previous ridiculous price ('discounted' to $2499) it had managed to attract two dozen watchers ....

Checking my eBay watching page, it appears that MM finally got lucky earlier this morning and eventually found a mug punter buyer who was willing to pay his 'reduced' Buy-it-Now asking price of $800 for that 7A28-7039.

Of course, given his proclivity for constantly revising his listings, this could only be temporary.

MM seems strangely determined not to sell any more of his grossly over-priced and frequently sub-standard Seiko 7Axx's. Yesterday evening, he once again frigged around with their pricing. For example, the tired p.o.s. two-tone 7A38-7020 is back up to $800 again and his 7A48-7000 / - 7009's now range from $600 to $1500. All the revised Buy-it-Now prices that I've checked have had his contrived 50% 'Sale' discount re-applied (to 'reduce' them to those prices). What a tw@t.

After a slow start to the new year, MM has now resumed listing more of his usual stock in trade, mostly junk jewellery. There is a Seiko quartz chronograph amongst last night's listings; not a 7Axx, but a well-worn non-working 7T92-0DW0. His description includes: Watch doesn’t work. One hand free inside case see pics. Try double-checking the photos.

Belated Edit: MM subsequently ended that listing for the 7T92-0DW0 a few days later as allegedly no longer available.

For the benefit of anyone else who might be following his antics (and wondering what the heck is going on), here's a quick (if slightly 'off topic') update on MM's latest shenanigans. Yesterday, he spent (more like wasted) about 10 hours ending (as allegedly no longer available) and re-listing over 1000 of his older unsold 4000 plus items. That's the sole reason why loads more of his eBay listings for cheap tat junk jewellery, vintage Christmas cards, bottle openers and various other ephemera are flagged as 'New' this morning. Best I can tell, he actually listed nothing new yesterday.

Regarding his Seiko 7Axx's (the main reason I'm tracking his activities), only one was affected by this pointless exercise. It's one of his 7A48-7009's. He first listed this particular non-working example on 16th December (purchased for a mere $88 on October 19th). He'd already re-listed it three times at end of December (during a previous spate of price hiking). The outcome being: its price has now been increased from $600 to $800.
