Seiko began producing its 38 caliber series watches in 1971. These were its first quartz watches produced in quantity -- though very expensive and thus beyond the means of the average consumer.
Following are a couple of 3823-7000 watches produced in 1971. Accuracy was a very respectable 5 seconds per month. Many of these watches had "V.F.A." on the dial, neither of mine do. They are listed at 141,000 yen in the 1974 Seiko catalog (my earliest) and would be expected to have cost even more during the year they were introduced. Even though 41 years old, both watches function with no problems.

Nice ! These are timecapsules frim the time it was hot to have quartz on the dail. Thanks for the pictures.

Nice to see your 2 watches.
I have the same setup, blue and white, but with the VFA on the dial as they are JDM models.

Unfortunately no pics together at the moment but an pic of the movement instead.



Open through glass.



Surprisingly the movement is adjusted to position as well as temp.
