before creating a franken?

Almost 2 years ago I "won" a 7A28-7070 on ebay. I even wrote about it here http://www.thewatchsite.com/index.php?topic=968.0

When it arrived the movement was more toasted than toasted toast. See here:

Building a movement from my parts box wasn't too much of a problem but the dial was equally trashed!

I've spent the last 2 years (almost) waiting for a dial to turn up. A silver faced version turned up recently on Ebay, but at my age I couldn't wait up until 0340 in the morning (UK time) to get a snipe bid in. My max bid didn't win.

Sod it! I'm not waiting another two years so I've banged in a 7A28-703B dial and hands.

To be honest the 703B dial is also water damaged but doesn't look too bad ............... does it?

If anyone has a 7A28 dial more "in keeping" with the 7070 model, I'll definately be interested.

Kind regards
Dave

Hi Spencer
I don't know what got in there but it certainly did a job on the movement. It seems unlikely to be water damage, although the dial and hands certainly looked to be water damaged. I can only assume it was attacked by the internals of the cell once the water had penetrated it. Only goes to show what a leaking cell can do to your watch if you don't remove it in time.
Incidentally. if I recall correctly, I sent pictures to the Ebay seller who without question apologised and gave me a generous refund.

Kind regards
Dave

I presume you've seen the 7A28-7070 709L dial included in the job lot of 3 'non-military' dials currently on eBay in UK ?

It's not the best, could do with a re-lume and some cleaning up, but it might be more in keeping with the rest of the watch.
Personally I've got nothing against 7Axx frankens, when needs must - as long as they're cobbled together for one's own amusement / consumption. ;D
