Hello,

I found these watches on e-bay. They're priced around 100USD. I never heard anything about this brand. Do you know them or does anyone of you have some experience with it?

I couldn't gather much info about the company, but they seem legit. I think they're in the same league as fossil. Japanese movement and mineral crystal, so it's still a decent watch, if you're considering to buy it :)

Yes saw it being sold at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport - if I'm not mistaken the company also makes sunglasses

Yes, my dad had a pair of their sunglasses, they were quite popular in the 80s.

Hello Luis,

Carrera watches used to be made by the Hong Kong based Egana-Goldpfeil Group. Egana-Goldpfeil went under in the current financial crisis.

The brand Carrera was initially owned by a company of the same name in Germany. This company made slot-car racing tracks under the name Carrera. It was the most popular slot-car brand world-wide from the 1950s through to the 1970s. The name Carrera was chosen in honor of the most popular car race in the world after WWII: the famous Carrera Panamericana.

The Carrera brand name is also found on glasses, shoes, helmets and other consumer goods. The brand today belongs to the Italian Safilo Group. It is them licensing the brand to Egana-Goldpfeil's liquidators in Hong Kong.

Generally speaking the watches of the Carrera brand are quite well made and affordable. Some of them look astonishing.

Egana's top brands Puma and Esprit have been bought by the Swiss Mondaine Watch Group. Mondaine Watch has taken over the factories of Egana-Goldpfeil in Hong Kong as well. The Carrera watches are manufactured thus by Mondaine Watch's Hong Kong company on behalf of the liquidators of Egana-Goldpfeil. What will become of the watch brand in the longer term is not known yet in the trade, however.

Thanks for sharing all that info James:thumbup: I love reading about the history behind watch companies. Also, I checked out EL collection. You have some beautiful watches there :)

Dear Bio,

Thank you very much for reaction to my posting. Much appreciated.

I see that you live in India. We sell regularly watches to your country. Unfortunately, our distributor went bankrupt a while ago. So, for now it is direct sales to consumers.

If ever you contemplate adding an EL watch to your collection please do get in touch with me. As every member of this forum you shall buy directly from the factory at wholesale prices.

Take care and continue enjoying your time(s), Bio.

Yeah, unfortunately, luxury watches still have a very niche market here, but from what I hear around a lot, is that it's picking up. Hopefully, someday, it'll actually make sense for you to come back. Beautiful watches are always appreciated

Thanks for the offer :thumbup1:I most definitely will be adding me as soon as they're within my reach. Montres Edouard Lauzieres has a great history and I loved the watches from the moment I saw them, especially Wall Street, Park Avenue and Maitreya.
(If possible, could you PM me the prices for the above mentioned models, so that I have an idea as to how much I need to save up)

Carrera quartz chronograph, model 515 with 15 jewel MTM Cal. 869.10 movement

Good afternoon Gentlemen.

'Newbie' making his first post on WTF.

Apologies for giving a very belated bump to an old thread (it's only been 7 years), but it was this thread (and some very selective Googling) which led me to your forum. :thumbup1:

Please allow me to explain.
I normally restrict my watch collecting to Seiko 7A38 15J quartz chronographs (and their derivatives).
Some members here may know me - I have my own small dedicated forum with 800 odd members.
Within it, we have a forum section where we discuss other contemporary quartz chronographs.

I'd noticed a few years ago, that there were other brands of quartz chronographs with similar tri-compax sub-dials that employed the same 3-pusher and crown (@ 8 o'clock) layout as the Seiko 7Axx's. So I started a thread about them. One of them is the Gucci 9300 / 9400 quartz chronograph, which has been discussed in other threads here. Back in August 2013, one of my forum members posted a link to an eBay auction for a Carrera chrono' which not only had the 'right' layout, but also a date window let into the 1/10s sub-dial.

I was intrigued, but managed to hold off buying one for over 3 years. I finally caved in a couple of weeks ago and bought one. It arrived yesterday. Here's a Q&D wrist shot (as received):

and the eBay seller's photo of the movement (rotated through 90):

Does anybody else on here own one of these, or have any experience of one ? :confused1:
I'm looking for some help and advice - ideally an instruction booklet (to enable me to re-set the chrono' sub-dials - it isn't the same method as a Seiko 7Axx). Is anyone familiar with the movement / knows who might have manufactured it (allegedly 'Swiss Made') - or have a Tech Manual for it ?

Hope it's O.K. to post a link to other watch forums :T

Here's my research into Carrera: http://www.seiko7a38.com/apps/forums/topics/show/13399498

and the original 7Axx clone thread: http://www.seiko7a38.com/apps/forums/topics/show/7390834

Thanks for any replies.

I had only vaguely heard of this brand from 30 yrs ago and dusted them off as being just another fashion watch. A 15 jewel quartz movement though means they aren't as low level as i thought. But... the only reference i can find to that watch movement is an eBay auction and i see it has a bit of instruction for each of the pushers shown within the auction narrative. I'll be surprised if anyone here has one of these though....

That's the one I bought, Mike.

Though what the seller wrote in the description, about the 10 o'clock pusher doesn't make sense (on it's own). Nor can you reset the sub-dials in the same manner as you would a Seiko 7A28 or 7A38.

Thanks, Bill. :001_smile:

No intent to draw anyone away - links were for anybody who might be interested in further background reading.
